The perfect family holiday location to explore the Lake District National Park and the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Surrounded by an abundance of natural beauty, this family holiday home is nestled between the Lake District National Park and North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Sleeping up to six guests, this lovely property is on the doorstep of many magnificent walks and hiking trails. Adventurous visitors could even jump in the car and drive to Ullswater Lake for a spot of wild swimming.

Kick off your muddy walking boots and make yourselves at home in the cosy lounge. Let the warmth from the wood burner effect fire fill the room as you and your group snuggle together on the sofas. If you’re holidaying with little ones, why not put on their favourite TV programme as you enjoy a moment’s peace in the spacious conservatory? Sit back with a cup of tea and look out into the garden as the chef of your group cooks a heartwarming dinner in the well-equipped kitchen. Dig into your supper in the dining room before making your way to the games room for an evening of family fun – there’s even an Xbox 360 to keep the kids entertained. Outside you’ll find a large enclosed tiered lawned area, which is great for children to run across and burn off some steam. When it’s time for bed you’ll find three bedrooms spread across the first and second floors: one king, one double and one twin.

If your group is into watersports, Ullswater Lake (17 miles) is a must-visit. You can hire canoes or kayaks from the Glenridding Sailing Centre (May to November), which is located on the shores of the water. The delightful market town of Appleby-in-Westmorland (11 miles) is full of charm and a great place to visit for an afternoon tea.

  • 3 bedrooms - 1 king-size, 1 double and 1 twin zip-and-link (which can be made into a super-king-size on request)
  • 1 bathroom with bath, separate shower and WC and 1 shower room with shower and WC
  • Electric oven and gas hob, microwave, dishwasher and fridge
  • Utility room with American style fridge/freezer and washing machine
  • Travel cot and highchair available
  • TV/DVD in the lounge, TV in the second lounge area within the conservatory, Xbox 360 in the games room
  • Large enclosed garden with seating
  • Off-road private for 3 cars

Beautiful cottage in a very peaceful location. This was probably one of the best equipped cottages that we have stayed in. The cottage was extremely clean and comfortable. The garden was fully enclosed and was perfect for our dog. Dee was really helpful and friendly. Will definitely look to stay again.

A lovely, very well presented and cozy property, which is in a lovely area overlooking the stream through the village. One thing that really struck me was just how quiet the area is. Sure, you can hear the livestock in the surrounding area and the odd tractor on occasions, but that's it: total peace and quiet otherwise. Oh, and if you like astronomRead morey, the skies, on a clear night are jet black. I was really surprised at just how many stars you can see. Hide

The Lake District National Park is situated in the north west of England in the county of Cumbria. It is famously home to England’s tallest peak, largest lake, deepest lake and some of the most beautiful views in the British Isles. It has been a major draw for holidaymakers for over 200 years and its popularity shows no signs that this will diminish anytime soon. Adding to the spectacle, there are long-distance walking trails, endless history and culture to appreciate, as well as an unbeatable array of outdoor activities to try in some exceptionally eye-catching locations.

Mountains, lakes, rocky rivers, waterfalls, and valleys lined by stone walls characterise the Lake District National Park. Add to this vision slate-roofed villages, winding country roads, arctic alpine and wildflower meadows, and beautiful birds such as skylarks, curlews, meadow pipits, and lapwings, which all provide the perfect backdrop for a holiday. The poet, William Wordsworth, who lived in Grasmere, wrote a guidebook of the area in 1810, and very little has changed in the region to tie it into the modern world. The centre of the Lake District is dominated by its craggy mountains such as Scafell Pike and its exceptional lakes like Windermere, Ullswater, Derwentwater, Coniston Water and so many more.

Each of the Lake District’s towns has a village sensibility, yet all of them offer handy amenities, cultural attractions and some of the North West’s best places to eat and drink. Top visitor attractions include The World of Beatrix Potter, Sizergh Castle, Hill Top, Go Ape Grizedale, Grizedale Forest, Fellini and Zefferelli’s Cinema/Restaurants, the Bluebird Mk II, Ravenglass Roman Bathouse alongside a world of outdoor sporting and activity providers. Natural landmarks include Aira Force, Tarn Hows, Scaffell Pike, Castlerigg Stone Circle, The Old Man of Coniston, Helvellyn and Skiddaw. Pull on your walking boots and traverse the long-distance walking trails of the Lakes like Wainwright’s Coast to Coast, and the Tour of the Lake District.

As you get to know the region better, you will find evidence of prehistoric and ancient man in the Lake District, as there are standing stones, circles, and rows to find, as well as one of the largest standing Roman buildings in the UK. Visit Ravenglass, one of the UK’s oldest settlements and the only coastal village in the Lake District; it has beautiful waterside views of the Munros of Southern Scotland. Remnants of the region’s industrial activity can be traced in the form of bobbin mills, gunpowder mills, and mines. The Lakes also have some famous literary and art associations, including Beatrix Potter, John Ruskin, Arthur Ransome, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, William Wordsworth, JMW Turner, John Constable, LS Lowry and Percy Kelly.

It could take you five lifetimes to visit each of the places mentioned here; a good way to see more of the Lake District National Park is stay at one of our self-catering holiday cottages. Our range of holiday properties in the Lake District and Cumbria gives you the perfect place to stay in the north west countryside or on the coast. Our self-catering cottages in the Lake District offer lovely holiday accommodation to suit all your needs, from cottages to rent for a romantic getaway to larger properties for the whole family – we even have dog-friendly holiday homes across the Lake District too.
