This lovely holiday lodge is perfectly located in an elevated position on the edge of the village surrounded by meadowland that offers many delights of Hawkshead and the Lake District National Park.

Occupying a good central location within the Lake District National Park, this delightful wooden lodge is perfect for friends or families who want to explore the area’s spectacular natural beauty. Surrounded by tranquil countryside with plenty of walks on your doorstep, it’s a great place to escape the hectic pace of life. However, you’re still only a few hundred metres from the centre of the historic town, Hawkshead, with its range of independent shops and eateries. This is a great base from which to explore the whole of the Lakes.

One of two properties at this location, this cosy lodge is comfortable and clean, ensuring you have a relaxing stay. Wood is the star of the show and creates a welcoming feel throughout, whilst the open-plan living space allows you all to spend quality time together. After discarding coats and shoes in the convenient hallway, sink into a sofa in the lounge, cook up some treats in the well-equipped kitchen or tuck into a hearty meal around the dining table. To the rear of the property, there are three good-sized bedrooms and two shower rooms. A handy utility room completes the accommodation. Outside, you can enjoy a spot of al fresco dining on the terrace against the picturesque backdrop.

Situated at the northern end of Esthwaite Water, car-free Hawkshead is steeped in history, with narrow, cobbled streets adding to its charm. The area has many connections to the well-loved writers Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth; Beatrix Potter’s house, Hill Top, is in the nearby village of Near Sawrey (2.5 miles). Lake Windermere is also nearby (4 miles) and you can get a ferry across to the larger town of Bowness-on-Windermere (10 miles). If you like adventures, head to Grizedale Forest (3.5 miles) for mountain biking, tree climbing and an adventure playground.

One of 3 chalets in a field near the centre of Hawkshead, so it was convenient for shops, pubs and touring. An outside verandah for sunny days, which could do with upgrading. Beds were comfortable and clean. Basic equipment in the kitchen.

Fabulous place to stay and lovely views. Nice spacious living area. So close to the shops and pubs in Hawshead although getting a table to eat wasn't easy make sure you book. The kitchen in the lodge was well equipped so if you fancied cooking it wouldn't be a problem. We enjoyed our stay so much we will book again.

Just spent a week at excellent week at Pear Lodge. Spacious and clean accommodation Right on the edge of Hawkshead, which has 3 fine pubs and fish and chips. Perfect place to explore the Lake District, with Windermere a short drive away. Doesn't have Wi-fi but mobile signal is quiet good.

We had a great week staying in Pear Tree Lodge. We had everything we needed and the lodge was very spacious. We found the location great and walked into town daily for a drink, coffee or to shop. We used the lodge as a base to go mountain biking in Grizedale Forest, walking up Old Man of Coniston and paddle boarding on Coniston. We had plenty of spRead moreace to store kit and dry wetsuits. We found the washing machine useful too. Would definitely stay again. Hide

Great Location, as it is ideal for visiting Hawkshead village. Spacious lodge, with nice scenic views. You receive a lovely welcome bag full of local treats - so that was greatly appreciated. Lodge comes well equipped with a number of appliances. I would stay here again if we ever visited the lakes in the future.

Warmed up really quickly, well stocked kitchen, books and games. Extremely close to village and shops (5 mins). Great views of surrounding area. We loved it and will definitely book again.

Pair Tree Lodge is suitably located a short walk from Hawkshead village with a balcony to enjoy a morning coffee in the sunshine or a well earned beer after a great day out. There is sufficient space within the living area where we were able to prepare evening meals in a relaxing environment and afterwards enjoy a walk into town afterwards.

The Lake District National Park is situated in the north west of England in the county of Cumbria. It is famously home to England’s tallest peak, largest lake, deepest lake and some of the most beautiful views in the British Isles. It has been a major draw for holidaymakers for over 200 years and its popularity shows no signs that this will diminish anytime soon. Adding to the spectacle, there are long-distance walking trails, endless history and culture to appreciate, as well as an unbeatable array of outdoor activities to try in some exceptionally eye-catching locations.

Mountains, lakes, rocky rivers, waterfalls, and valleys lined by stone walls characterise the Lake District National Park. Add to this vision slate-roofed villages, winding country roads, arctic alpine and wildflower meadows, and beautiful birds such as skylarks, curlews, meadow pipits, and lapwings, which all provide the perfect backdrop for a holiday. The poet, William Wordsworth, who lived in Grasmere, wrote a guidebook of the area in 1810, and very little has changed in the region to tie it into the modern world. The centre of the Lake District is dominated by its craggy mountains such as Scafell Pike and its exceptional lakes like Windermere, Ullswater, Derwentwater, Coniston Water and so many more.

Each of the Lake District’s towns has a village sensibility, yet all of them offer handy amenities, cultural attractions and some of the North West’s best places to eat and drink. Top visitor attractions include The World of Beatrix Potter, Sizergh Castle, Hill Top, Go Ape Grizedale, Grizedale Forest, Fellini and Zefferelli’s Cinema/Restaurants, the Bluebird Mk II, Ravenglass Roman Bathouse alongside a world of outdoor sporting and activity providers. Natural landmarks include Aira Force, Tarn Hows, Scaffell Pike, Castlerigg Stone Circle, The Old Man of Coniston, Helvellyn and Skiddaw. Pull on your walking boots and traverse the long-distance walking trails of the Lakes like Wainwright’s Coast to Coast, and the Tour of the Lake District.

As you get to know the region better, you will find evidence of prehistoric and ancient man in the Lake District, as there are standing stones, circles, and rows to find, as well as one of the largest standing Roman buildings in the UK. Visit Ravenglass, one of the UK’s oldest settlements and the only coastal village in the Lake District; it has beautiful waterside views of the Munros of Southern Scotland. Remnants of the region’s industrial activity can be traced in the form of bobbin mills, gunpowder mills, and mines. The Lakes also have some famous literary and art associations, including Beatrix Potter, John Ruskin, Arthur Ransome, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, William Wordsworth, JMW Turner, John Constable, LS Lowry and Percy Kelly.

It could take you five lifetimes to visit each of the places mentioned here; a good way to see more of the Lake District National Park is stay at one of our self-catering holiday cottages. Our range of holiday properties in the Lake District and Cumbria gives you the perfect place to stay in the north west countryside or on the coast. Our self-catering cottages in the Lake District offer lovely holiday accommodation to suit all your needs, from cottages to rent for a romantic getaway to larger properties for the whole family – we even have dog-friendly holiday homes across the Lake District too.
