Set on the western fringe of the Lake District National Park, this pretty cottage offers a great holiday base in Duddon Valley a short drive to the shops and eateries of Broughton-in-Furness and with fells, lakes and coastline nearby.
This cottage is a gem set in a picturesque village of a couple of dozen dwellings hugging the south-facing slopes of the lower Duddon Valley, with a river running through it and fabulous walks right from the door. Swinside Stone Circle, one of the best preserved and documented, is virtually on your doorstep. The cottage is cosy, comfortable and full of character with open beams, a wood burner and beautiful furnishings.
It’s a superb base to explore all that the South Lakes and coast has to offer. A 7-mile drive takes you to mile upon mile of sandy beaches, which you can even explore on horseback from the nearby heavy horse centre.
Ten minutes in the opposite direction is the lovely market town of Broughton-in-Furness which has a beautiful Goergian market square and a fabulous local bakery – the perfect stopping off place to get essentials before heading on to discover the Duddon Valley, reputedly Wordsworth’s favourite! Visit it at twilight for the fullest flavour. Coniston is your nearest lake – just 14 miles away.
Recently renovated and beautiful throughout, this cottage is one of those places with a really lovely feel to it – it’s hard to put your finger on what it is exactly. It’s ideal for couples or if you’re travelling by yourself and the village is pretty with a great pub serving good food.
Parking is at the back of the cottage and you’ll enter via the back door. This leads directly into the kitchen which is fully equipped with dishwasher, electric oven and hob, microwave, free-standing fridge/freezer, washer drier, four slice toaster and plenty of storage space. Dining is also in the kitchen and there is a handy chaise longue if you fancy chatting to your partner while they're cooking up a feast!
From the kitchen is the lounge with a mix of antique and modern furniture - there is a beautiful sofa and comfy sofa, TV with DVD player, wood burner (initial supply of wood provided). Information about the local area is also provided.
Steep stairs lead from the hallway between the kitchen and lounge to the double bedroom and sparkly new bathroom, which would be unimaginable to the farm worker who originally lived in this ‘two-up, two down’ cottage. The bath has a shower over it, and towels are provided.
A small patio outside to the front of the cottage has seating - perfect for watching the quiet pace of village life.
