Traditional Lakeland cottage with lots of character. Perfect for a family and featuring some fabulous walks from your front door.

Immerse yourselves in the glorious scenery of the Lake District when you stay at this inviting cottage at Bassenthwaite, 7 miles from Keswick. Sleeping five guests and two dogs, this gorgeous, three-bedroom retreat looks out over the village green and also has views of Skiddaw. Venture out into your beautiful surroundings, spend time at Bassenthwaite Lake, then return to your inviting abode to bask by a roaring wood burner or relax out in the charming cottage garden, depending on the season.

Open the front door, leave your outerwear in the lobby area and head into the characterful lounge, with its exposed timbers. Light the wood burner on chilly days, switch on the Smart TV and discuss your adventures for the following day. Take turns preparing home-cooked meals in the cleverly designed kitchen; there is also a utility room with a useful washing machine and a an additional fridge. You’ll also find a family shower room at this level. Make your way up to the floor above to discover the family bathroom, two king size bedrooms and a single room – just watch out for low ceilings, due to the age of the cottage. Take your morning coffee out into the sunny garden and enjoy the fresh air; dine out here on occasion too. Parking is on the road, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Keen hikers might like to climb up to the 930-metre summit of Skiddaw, approximately 3.5 miles from the cottage, or enjoy a gentler walk at leafy Whinlatter Forest Park, about 10 miles away. Plan a trip or two to Keswick to browse in its shops and dine out in its eateries. Members of your party might also like to take a launch out on Derwentwater to soak up the splendid scenery from the lake.

  • Please note there is a security camera above the main door for the cottage, the camera points away from the property to the entrance gate and is for security purposes only. Note the camera also operates as a motion operated security light which is very useful when arriving at the property in the dark.

A really lovely cottage. Can't fault it. Lots of space for the food we brought for 7 days over Christmas. 2 fridges which were really useful and a good sized freezer. Beautifully decorated for Christmas. Imagine v nice in summer too with it's small private garden. Really friendly local pub with good food. Definitely recommend and hope to stay againRead more Hide

Absolutely stunning location, jaw dropping! The village is lovely and great food and ale at the village pub. A very cosy and comfortable cottage. We loved it!

Had a great family week at this property. It is pretty, spacious and well equipped, in a wonderful quiet spot in a classic rural working Lakeland village. Near a great classic pub. Pretty, small garden. Welcome pack, super selection of what to do info, games. Hills large, small, walks/cycling on the doorstep, and activities and many hotspots in reaRead morech. Perfect holiday cottage: comfortable well equipped and in an ideal location for walking, enjoying the countryside and relaxing. We were able to park directly outside the cottage and it was very safe for our dog- the enclosed garden was a bonus and we were able to eat outside in the lovely sunshine. Beautiful little cottage, perfect as a base for our family to explore the surroundings. The cottage was welcoming and cozy and great for our small dog. The log fire was perfect after a long day of walking. We really appreciated all the homely touches and having a great pub a few minutes walk away was brilliant. We had a lovely dinner there (simple Read morepub food but delicious and good value). Bathrooms were lovely and clean and the views from the windows were beautiful. Comfortable cottage in quiet, lovely location. Great walks from here - Up Skiddaw for a longer walk, but just a short walk to the The Sun for beer and supper.

Absolutely loved it. Really relaxing with views of the hills and lambs (close up). So many walks from the door, and a short drive offers even more. Has such character, comfortable, and well thought out to make the most of all the space available. Top all that off with a local pub, friendly staff, real ale and good food.
