This lovingly decorated cottage offers a wonderful family escape to the country, set in a great location for walkers, cyclists and those who truly appreciate nature.

A charming property bursting with original character and surrounded by the lush Cumbrian countryside, this rural hideaway is ideal for outdoorsy families or groups of friends. A true walkers paradise, fill your lungs with crisp country air as you amble through the emerald hills on the Pennie Way trail, before stretching weary feet and enjoying a tipple in front of the crackling open fire.

This quintessential English cottage boasts dark wooden beams, stable doors, and accents of warm plum tones, creating a cosy and welcoming space. Step through the wooden gate then kick off muddy hiking boots at the door and enter the hallway. Throw another log on the fire, grab some well-deserved nibbles, then sit back on the sofas and watch a film on the TV. Potter in the farmhouse-style kitchen or sink onto the armchair and bask in the warmth of the wood burner to watch as the resident chef puts their knife skills to work. Gather around the dining table and debrief on the day’s activities while you wine and dine with a hearty post-adventure feast. Retreat upstairs to the first floor encompassing a bright double and a single room with garden views, then ascend a further set of stairs to reach the tranquil king-size room. Sip your morning brew on the enclosed patio with wonderful rolling vistas or grab some blankets and settle in for some evening stargazing.

Pack a picnic then step out and attempt to tackle the dominating peak of Wild Boar Fell, accessible from your doorstep. History buffs will delight in exploring the historic ruins of Pendragon Castle, steeped in King Arthur legend, within 1 mile, or venture to the ionic Lowther Castle for a truly memorable day trip for all the family, 29 miles.

We had a wonderful stay at Castle Cottages. The house is stunning and the Aga made the kitchen and downstairs so cosy and warm. Bathroom is huge and the shower is powerful. The bedrooms are all very comfy too but you can hear ever foot fall upstairs (which is fine as I can sleep through anything myself). The views are stunning and we worked out quiRead moreckly where we could walk our pooch off lead (NO where near any sheep). The cottage is in a great location for getting around NE England. Hide

Beautiful and peaceful location, lots of walks from the door. Apart from a trip to walk on the nearby Howgills we just parked the car and set out on foot everywhere. A walkers' paradise from nearby strolls to stunning views from the heights. Fabulous walk from Thrang on bridleway up to the stunning Watercut sculpture. A lovely quiet spot for relaxing and getting away from the crowds. The cottage was very comfy and cosy and felt very homely. We loved the porch black of night, the owls calling and the views from the front and rear of the cottage.

Well worth the money. Very comfortable and in a good location for several walks whether on the doorstep or travelling out a bit further in the car. Only downside is a lack of a confined outside space but aside from that this was great value.

What a wonderful cosy cottage. It worked really well for us as a family of four. There was enough space to both be together but also to have the space apart! The cottage is very homely and well organised but also feels fresh and high quality. Hotel style bedding etc. We cook in a lot (nut allergy in the family) so it was really lovely to be in a beRead moreautiful and well equipped kitchen with a good oven etc. Views are beautiful from the cottage and the patio is a lovely space to sit. A beautiful cottage in a gorgeous part of the world. The peace and quiet was incredible. Not far from local amenities and wildlife was abundant. Ideally placed to explore the Dales.

We absolutely loved this cottage. It was beautifully presented with excellent information about the cottage itself and things to do in the surrounding area. Lovely cottage, nicely decorated, very clean and fresh and very well equipped. Lovely views at the back too and walking pretty much from the doorstep. Only negative is that there is only one bathroom and no extra loo. This causes a bit of a problem if youre with friends like we were at certain pinch points of the day! An extra toilet would make thiRead mores cottage perfect. Hide
