Bright cottage located in the village of Hawkshead, ideal for a family break in the stunning Lake District.

Located in the centre of the popular town of Hawkshead, this well-presented, spacious cottage is perfect for friends or families who want to explore the Lake District National Park. Packed with history and interest, Hawkshead has a range of independent shops and eateries within its car-free, cobbled streets, but is also surrounded by the stunning natural beauty you’d expect from the Lakes. Beautifully styled, this light and airy cottage is welcoming and comfortable, whilst the odd pop of colour and pattern adds a sense of charm. The handy porch leads into the open-plan living area, which consists of a cosy lounge, a well-equipped, modern kitchen and ample dining space for everyone. Upstairs, there are two immaculate bedrooms (a king-size and a twin), whilst a lovely family bathroom completes the accommodation. French doors from the dining area lead out to a small enclosed patio, which is ideal for alfresco dining during the warmer months.

A popular destination for visitors to the Lakes, Hawskhead is located to the north of Esthwaite Water. The town has connections with well-loved writers Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth, and Beatrix Potter’s house, Hill Top, can be visited in Near Sawrey (2.5 miles). For those looking for more of an adventure, head to Grizedale Forest (3.5 miles) where activities such as mountain biking, tree-climbing and high ropes are on offer. Complete your visit to the Lakes with a visit to Lake Windermere (4 miles), where you can get the ferry across to the larger town of Bowness-on-Windermere (10 miles).

Well located cottage in the heart of Hawkshead. Very homely. Recommended. En-suite to Main bedroom is a bonus. As is the dining area. Parking a little tight but just ok for one car.

Lovely cosy cottage in superb position in the village. The cottage has everything you need, is clean, comfortable and quiet. There are some lovely walks from the doorstep and a bus ride away from Coniston or Ambleside. We would definitely recommend and stay here again in the future.

This a a nice roomy cottage in an ideal location which is very comfortable and nicely decorated with good facilities. Yet again we have enjoyed staying in No.11, and luckily for the time of the year had really crisp bright dry weather. We will certainly be returning in the very near future.

A very comfortable, well laid out cottage with the added bonus of an outside seating area. Just a two minute walk to get to the village centre. The mini freezer in the cupboard under the stairs was a hit during our hot weather stay. Definitely one of the better cottages we have stayed in when holidaying in the lakes.

Very good location. Parking space is very tight indeed and you may struggle with a larger than average car. We needed to buy extra hand soap and toilet roll. Local co-op is quite basic so supermarket delivery may be a good idea if you want to mostly self-cater. Be aware that currently many restaurants are extremely short-staffed so you will need toRead more book. Some of the local pubs are only serving residents. Do plan ahead. Hide

The Lake District National Park is situated in the north west of England in the county of Cumbria. It is famously home to England’s tallest peak, largest lake, deepest lake and some of the most beautiful views in the British Isles. It has been a major draw for holidaymakers for over 200 years and its popularity shows no signs that this will diminish anytime soon. Adding to the spectacle, there are long-distance walking trails, endless history and culture to appreciate, as well as an unbeatable array of outdoor activities to try in some exceptionally eye-catching locations.

Mountains, lakes, rocky rivers, waterfalls, and valleys lined by stone walls characterise the Lake District National Park. Add to this vision slate-roofed villages, winding country roads, arctic alpine and wildflower meadows, and beautiful birds such as skylarks, curlews, meadow pipits, and lapwings, which all provide the perfect backdrop for a holiday. The poet, William Wordsworth, who lived in Grasmere, wrote a guidebook of the area in 1810, and very little has changed in the region to tie it into the modern world. The centre of the Lake District is dominated by its craggy mountains such as Scafell Pike and its exceptional lakes like Windermere, Ullswater, Derwentwater, Coniston Water and so many more.

Each of the Lake District’s towns has a village sensibility, yet all of them offer handy amenities, cultural attractions and some of the North West’s best places to eat and drink. Top visitor attractions include The World of Beatrix Potter, Sizergh Castle, Hill Top, Go Ape Grizedale, Grizedale Forest, Fellini and Zefferelli’s Cinema/Restaurants, the Bluebird Mk II, Ravenglass Roman Bathouse alongside a world of outdoor sporting and activity providers. Natural landmarks include Aira Force, Tarn Hows, Scaffell Pike, Castlerigg Stone Circle, The Old Man of Coniston, Helvellyn and Skiddaw. Pull on your walking boots and traverse the long-distance walking trails of the Lakes like Wainwright’s Coast to Coast, and the Tour of the Lake District.

As you get to know the region better, you will find evidence of prehistoric and ancient man in the Lake District, as there are standing stones, circles, and rows to find, as well as one of the largest standing Roman buildings in the UK. Visit Ravenglass, one of the UK’s oldest settlements and the only coastal village in the Lake District; it has beautiful waterside views of the Munros of Southern Scotland. Remnants of the region’s industrial activity can be traced in the form of bobbin mills, gunpowder mills, and mines. The Lakes also have some famous literary and art associations, including Beatrix Potter, John Ruskin, Arthur Ransome, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, William Wordsworth, JMW Turner, John Constable, LS Lowry and Percy Kelly.

It could take you five lifetimes to visit each of the places mentioned here; a good way to see more of the Lake District National Park is stay at one of our self-catering holiday cottages. Our range of holiday properties in the Lake District and Cumbria gives you the perfect place to stay in the north west countryside or on the coast. Our self-catering cottages in the Lake District offer lovely holiday accommodation to suit all your needs, from cottages to rent for a romantic getaway to larger properties for the whole family – we even have dog-friendly holiday homes across the Lake District too.
