Cockermouth is the birthplace of William Wordsworth; visit his childhood home which is just a short walk away. Explore the Northern Lake District, Western fells and coast from here. Walk from the centre of town onto the top of Watch Hill (3.5 miles) fabulous views across the Solway Firth to Scotland and the Northern Valleys. You will find Harris Park a short walk away, a beautiful area within the wooded valley of the river Cocker which joins the River Derwent, there are lots of interesting walks around this attractive town. There are some lovely restaurants, shops, pubs and cafes, enjoy a romantic meal or a few drinks. The Lakes Distillery (4 miles) offers tours and tasting sessions of the gin or whisky made there. In the summer, you can catch a complimentary bus to beautiful Buttermere from the town during the summer months. Enjoy Go Ape or explore the forest trails at Whinlatter Forest (7 miles) or hop on the regular bus into Keswick.
