This lovely period farmhouse in the historic village of Cartmel is perfect for a get-together of family or friends for a holiday or special celebration. The spacious, Grade II-listed property sleeps 14 guests, welcomes up to four dogs and is full of character and charm. It overlooks rolling countryside and has a luxurious, seven-seater hot tub where you can relax and admire the wonderful views. Village shops and excellent restaurants are just 1 mile away, while attractions such as Lake Windermere (17 miles) are within easy reach.

The farmhouse is light and airy throughout, with large windows and original features, including exposed beams. A striking panelled wall separates two areas of the lounge, each beautifully furnished with comfortable seating. One houses a wood burner and Smart TV, and the other has an open fire, ideal for a peaceful read or board games. The superb, open-plan kitchen/diner has a table seating 14 and cosy sofas. A fine period staircase leads to the first floor and seven sumptuous bedrooms: two super-king-size, two king-size and three doubles. There are five bathrooms, including three en-suites, plus a ground-floor cloakroom. The enclosed garden has patio furniture, a fire pit and a BBQ, together with the hot tub.

Cartmel is a delightful medieval village with cobbled streets and a magnificent, 800-year-old priory. Famous for its racecourse, the village is also home to the Friesian Experience and Sanctuary, an equine centre where you can see the famous black horses of Cartmel. Go for a stroll or carriage ride and look out for visiting ducks from the nearby River Eea. Cartmel offers independent shops, tearooms and restaurants including the holder of a coveted Michelin Star. Drop into the tasting bar of a local craft brewery, and visit magnificent Holker Hall (2.5 miles), set in glorious gardens.
