Recently renovated cottage near the village of Eskdale, perfect for a couple looking for a romantic getaway with an abundance of space and plenty on offer nearby.

This charming property is the perfect to use as a base to explore the coast and the fells of the Lake District. Sleeping you both in a tranquil first-floor bedroom, this cottage is an opportunity to explore the stunning coast at Drigg Sand Dunes (8 miles) or tackle feats such as Scafell Pike (9.5 miles). On sunny evenings, cook up a storm in the kitchen and dine al fresco in the garden across the road among fantastic views.

Whether you’re relaxing in the lounge looking out across the valley from the first-floor windows or you’re enjoying a pint in the local pub (2 miles), you’ll find your favourite place here. The kitchen diner is bright and airy with everything you need to cook delicious meals, while neutral decor paired with botanical furnishings in the lounge make this a peaceful haven to relax in. If you’ve brought your four-legged friend with you, they’ll enjoy sniffing around in the garden across the road; when they’re ready for a change of scenery take them around the grounds of Muncaster Castle (4.5 miles) where the pretty gardens are not to be missed.

Take a ride on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway from Ravenglass (5.5 miles), the only coastal village in the Lake District, and experience the spectacular scenery at the foot of the Scafell range. Wander along the seafront at St. Bees (17 miles), or head inland to Grizedale Forest (25.5 miles) for beautiful views from Lake Windermere to Coniston Water along the trails. Experience the luxury travel the wealthy Victorians once experienced on the National Trust’s Steam Yacht Gondola on Coniston Water (19.5 miles) and take in the glorious scenery of the fells while the crew fills you in on the area’s rich history.

Forge Cottage is beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. Its like home from home, you have everything you need. Zoe and Mike are there if you need them for advice on where to walk/visit but leave you alone to enjoy your holiday. There are many lovely walks on the doorstep and you can drive to visit neighbouring places easily. A visit to The BooRead moret Inn is a must and The Bowers is nearly as good with tasty food. Would definitely return to Forge Cottage if we visit that part of the Lakes again. Hide
