Forming part of a Georgian Bassenthwaite House, this delightful cottage offers a peaceful retreat for couples or small families looking to explore this area’s lakes, peaks, pretty villages and outdoor pursuits.

This lovely mews cottage, which is part of a Georgian Bassenthwaite House, sleeps two to three people in comfort. The cottage has a pretty garden, shared with the resident chickens.

Skiddaw provides an inspiring backdrop to the village and you can find some of the best ways to climb it virtually from the door.

The shores of Bassenthwaite are about a mile away. You can walk over the fields or take a short drive down the lane to the picturesque church of St Bega and the historic stately home Mirehouse.

Keswick and Cockermouth are within a 15-minute drive, offering interesting shopping, plentiful pubs, cafes and tearooms. The local pub to Chapel House Mews is in the centre of Bassenthwaite village, which has a welcoming atmosphere, great menu and is dog friendly.

The property has an open-plan kitchen and lounge area. The lounge area has seating for three people around a electric coal-fire effect heater and a TV with freesat, DVD player, stereo system and a CD player. There is a fold-out table for dining and there is a piano for guests to use (please note it is not regularly tuned).

The kitchen has an electric hob, oven and grill. There is also a microwave, undercounter fridge with freezer compartment and a dishwasher. The washing machine can be found in the lobby.

The double bedroom is also on the ground floor, along with the bathroom which has a bath with electric shower over, WC and basin.

Use of the sofa bed in the cottage allows the cottage to sleep an extra person.

There is a shared laundry room with a tumble dryer available at prior arrangement with the owner.

Outside there is a cobbled courtyard for parking. The shared garden is split into two sections. The first part has a seating area and then beyond this is a small gate to a larger garden with chickens in, which is also shared with the owners (please don't take pets into this part of the garden).

A very comfortable, well-equipped cottage in a handy location for the North Lakes, and also exploring up the Cumbrian coast. Cottage had everything needed, and helpful owners. Very nice pub in the village is only about 15 minutes walk away, and it was a bonus to be able to climb Skiddaw directly from the village without needing to drive.

Lovely cottage in a great part of the world. Ideal location for exploring the Lakes and the many mountain hiking walks. Owners very friendly and helpful. Only sorry we had to cut short our holiday due to a close family member being taken ill, which meant we had to get back home. Had a lovely time.

Lovely quiet cottage, ideal position away from main traffic routes. Everything you could possibly need in terms of equipment, bedding, reading materials, some cooking essentials, basics for a hot drink when you arrive, etc. Beautiful hens! Not much in the way of local groceries, but Keswick and Cockermouth have plenty. We brought the makings of a fRead moreew meals with us so were able to survive for a few days. Lots of nearby footpaths, especially if you can read an OS map. We would definitely go back! Hide

We loved staying in this cosy wee cottage in a beautiful part of the Lake District. It was warm, snug and everything had been thought of and provided for by the owners who live next door. It was so well-equipped...... better than properties I've stayed in that have been double the size. We thoroughly enjoyed our week here.

We use self catering properties for all our holidays and would rate this as one of the best equipped, especially kitchen equipment. The furnishings were delightful, if a little quirky.

Absolutely lovely cottage and very homely! Can get cold but an electric fire was nice and toasty. Kitchen was well-equipped and teabags/milk/biscuits was a nice gesture. Good location - walks nearby and a local pub. Do have to get in a car to do any food shopping though. Will definitely return as so much more to explore
