Very quaint remote cottage, ideal for couples with a dog. Wonderful walks direct from the cottage or a short drive away. Very good location for the lakes. On this occasion, the garden needed attention, as the lawn was very long, making dog 'collecting' difficult, and the flower beds where full of weeds. The blurb on booking website says:-

"A gate leads through the owner's garden towards their secluded little oasis, a piece of wooded land complete with a natural pond and access down to the beck"..

..however, there is no direct path from the garden to the beck, there are a number of beautiful vantage points with benches, but no access from the garden as stated.

The shower in the bathrom also leaves a lot to be desired, ther shower door is broken, and I appreciate the lack of room, but the shower is very very small.

The information in the'welcome pack' is a littel out of date, and as a dog friendly cottage, some more information as to dog friendly locations and businesses woudl have been useful.

The owner was very amenable and friendly and welcomed us upon arrival.

The local amenities are very restricted, Orton has one dog unfreindly pub and a village shop - it does have a very good chocolate shop however..!!

Shap has more facilities, but is further away - and why does everyone bang on about the chip shop..?? Flat wet cod in a thin batter - and greasy chips, they need to come to Warwickshire to get real fish and chips..!!

Overall, my wife, dog and I had a wonderful holiday, and would recommend both the cottage and the area..

N.B. the narrow 'bushes brush both sides of the car' lanes are AMAZING..!!

Hi Adam, very many thanks for leaving such a detailed response. I will certainly investigate the points relating to the cottage and may well take you up on your offer of fish and chips in Warwickshire! The owners have struggled to cut the grass due to the wet Summer that we experienced but do endeavour to keep on top of the gardening. I'm glad that you had such a fantastic time - we would love to see again when you come back and explore more of our narrow lanes!

A very cute cottage - great if you want to really get away from the hustle and bustle of life. We were met with a warm welcome and home baked cookies which was a lovely touch. The cottage is well-equipped with a very cosy sofa, but could do with a DVD player as the internet is not strong enough for streaming. It was nice to have an enclosed garden to ourselves, but this could have done with a little tidy up and a small patio area would have been beneficial as the grassed area was rather damp throughout our stay - even when the sun was shining. Having wood provided for the wood burner was also really appreciated.

We were warned that the water (from a local source) could become brown occasionally - this was a little disconcerting but not a deal breaker. Washing machine was a real bonus - with staying for two weeks it meant we didn't have to take quite so much with us and we didn't have a ton of washing to do when we got home either!

The walks around the cottage were lovely - sadly we didn't get to appreciate these til the end of our stay due to the weather and wanting to get out and about and explore the Lakes. The welcome book was helpful but could do with updating.

Overall, a great place to stay for a relaxing break.

Hi Ali, thank you for taking the time to write a review. I'm glad you enjoyed your break. It's the ideal place to get away from it all isn't it? I can't think of a better start to a holiday than some delicious home baked cookies!
I'm glad you enjoyed getting out exploring despite some less than perfect weather. I bet it was a real treat to come home to that cosy wood burner.
I really appreciate your feedback and suggestions for improvement and will make sure everything you have mentioned is looked into, thank you.
I hope you can come back to explore more of the Lakes soon.
