- Very quaint remote cottage, ideal for couples with a dog. Wonderful walks direct from the cottage or a short drive away. Very good location for the lakes. On this occasion, the garden needed attention, as the lawn was very long, making dog 'collecting' difficult, and the flower beds where full of weeds. The blurb on booking website says:-
"A gate leads through the owner's garden towards their secluded little oasis, a piece of wooded land complete with a natural pond and access down to the beck"..
..however, there is no direct path from the garden to the beck, there are a number of beautiful vantage points with benches, but no access from the garden as stated.
The shower in the bathrom also leaves a lot to be desired, ther shower door is broken, and I appreciate the lack of room, but the shower is very very small.
The information in the'welcome pack' is a littel out of date, and as a dog friendly cottage, some more information as to dog friendly locations and businesses woudl have been useful.
The owner was very amenable and friendly and welcomed us upon arrival.
The local amenities are very restricted, Orton has one dog unfreindly pub and a village shop - it does have a very good chocolate shop however..!!
Shap has more facilities, but is further away - and why does everyone bang on about the chip shop..?? Flat wet cod in a thin batter - and greasy chips, they need to come to Warwickshire to get real fish and chips..!!
Overall, my wife, dog and I had a wonderful holiday, and would recommend both the cottage and the area..
N.B. the narrow 'bushes brush both sides of the car' lanes are AMAZING..!!
