- A nice cottage located in a quiet area of the Lake District. Not a pretty cottage to look at from the outside, but compact and cosy inside. Fairly well equipped, though the fridge is small and there is no microwave. Not as clean as it could have been. I had to clean the kitchen sink and the shower heads had a layer of black slime on them. It's a shame that you don't get views of the lake from the cottage, but the view from the lower bench in the garden is spectacular and luckily we had the weather to sit out and enjoy it at breakfast time and in the evening. Unfortunately it isn't enclosed and one of the 3 dogs staying at the big house kept messing on our lawn!
There was some good wildlife spotting, with a stoat regularly running across the lawn with food for it's young, a family of redstarts, a barn owl, swallows and house martins and a goldcrest hovering outside the windows
It's nice that you can do nice walks straight from the cottage, and it is around 2.5 miles and a 50 minute walk around the lake to the Kirkstile Inn, where there is good food and a lovely beer garden. They also serve coffee and cake from 10am.
Overall, a very enjoyable holiday.
