The cottage was very damp & cold when we arrived. Thankfully, we had taken our own kindling & firefighters as there were none left for us to light the stove and the newspaper provided was even damp! Overall, the cottage needs some TLC and a thorough clean. We did report the issues and both Sally’s Cottages and the owner responded but unfortunately nothing could be done to resolve the problems already encountered. On a more positive note, the cottage is in a lovely location and we enjoyed our walks at Buttermere and eating out at the Kirkstile Inn at Loweswater.

Hello Sally, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I really appreciate your feedback and are disappointed that your experience fell short of expectations. We pride ourselves in providing a great holiday and take it very seriously when we get feedback such as yours. When advised of your review the Director of the management company that looks after the cottage told us he will be making a personal visit to the property to ensure appropriate standards are being maintained, and investigate the concerns raised. Thanks for letting us know of the shortcomings and that the owner did his best to rectify them but that is difficult when the issues are experienced on arrival. Given COVID it has been an unusual time with properties standing empty for long periods and in future the owner has assured us that there will be a freshen up clean prior to new arrivals. Anyway we hope to see you again in the near future so you can enjoy those walks and the great food at the Kirkstile. If you choose to stay in the Cottage at Jenkinson Place again we will ensure that there is some vino there for you on arrival to make amends.

Loved this place and the location. Everything works really well in the place- the heating, the shower, the dishwasher, the washing machine/dryer, TV, internet etc and the kitchen was well equipped.

The views are lovely and the location is great for lots of walking. It’s remote enough to feel like you can completely switch off from the rest of the world, but 30 mins from supplies in Keswick - perfect.
The cottage whilst nice, could do with a bit of attention from the owners. Just lacked that little bit of TLC you come to find in plenty of other cottages. The kitchen sink has mould around it which with a good scrub can be eliminated, and every lightbulb in the house is bright white with no dimmer option so the ambience is more surgical than cosy - it’s a quick fix to put a warmer lightbulb in but makes a massive difference. The property advertises as having a deep thorough clean in between guests to protect against the transfer of germs (Covid), this isn’t apparent, the lounge was a bit grubby and there was a bag full of linens in the bottom of the wardrobe which I assume was from the previous guests - perhaps the cleaners only do the laundry every 2 weeks - needless to say we didn’t use the wardrobe out of caution. The cottage manual also stated that due to Covid all DVDs and games had been removed from the house to prevent transfer of germs, they hadn’t they were all in the lounge.
Inconveniently, there was no clothes dryer which it stated in the cottage manual that the cottage was equipped with, we had our baby with us so we were doing laundry most days.
I think this is just bad property management or perhaps another cleaning company is needed. This cottage has the potential to be an amazing getaway just needs some attention from the owners.

Hello there, many thanks for taking the time to leave a review. The views and location are just perfect, aren't they?! I'm really sorry to hear that you faced a few issues during your stay - I have discussed your feedback with the cottage owner and they too are really disappointed. They will be supporting the housekeeping team moving forward and they've actually made arrangements to visit the property soon, to ensure their standards are being met. The windows have recently been updated to wooden frames with secondary glazing, which has improved the property considerably. It is so effective, however, that drying clothes inside the cottage has contributed to damp. For this reason, the clothes rack is no longer supplied and it should have been removed from the inventory. There is a tumble dryer at the property and there is also a retractable clothes line. The sink is bleached at every changeover and given this is not removing the stain on the sealant, the owners will be removing and replacing this very soon. The games and linen should not have been there so I'm really sorry about that. Despite the shortcomings you experienced, I hope you enjoyed exploring The Lakes and that we can welcome you back again soon. The owners would love to welcome you back to The Cottage at Jenkinson Place and will have a bottle of vino waiting for you!
