- Lovely cottage with excellent facilities, including a sun-trap roof terrace and woodland garden. It is very comfortable and well-equipped. We were there during a very hot spell and really appreciated being able to walk through the woods to the lake, where we canoed and swam most days. The dog loved the lake too, and the cottage is well set up for cleaning and drying off canine family members (it's amazing how many dog-friendly holiday cottages don't include something as basic as a hose to wash down muddy dogs, but everything was thought of here). There are good walks from the door (e.g. Beacon Fell and Tarn - we saw an adder!). The traffic and parking in the area is a bit of a nightmare in the summer, so it was great to be able to take advantage of the lake and walks without having to negotiate any of this (in fact, the only negative of the cottage was the road noise at certain times of the day). I've scored the cottage lower for local amenities as you need to go to Ulverston for a supermarket, but Sainsburys and Tesco deliver here, so you don't even need to do that.
