Copeland Cottage is in a superb location - quiet and peaceful, and has good access to local walks. The weather was very kind to us and we were able to walk each day, (Catbells, Melbrake near Buttermere, Blencathra, Hellvellyn, Dove Crag and Jacks Rake) There were beautiful views from the windows across fields and towards Catbells. The house was warm, although the bedrooms were cold, however you can put the electric heating on in each room if needed. We also used the wood burner on a couple of nights and found it very efficient. The upstairs bedroom was a little disappointing as the bed was only a small double at 4'6" and my husband and I are used to a super king, however, the bed was comfortable. The upstairs bath is also quite small and narrow but ideal if you have little children. The kitchen was generally well equipped and there is a good sized utility room, however, we did find that there was a rather nasty smell near the fridge area which came and went, and we never quite found out what was causing it. We left a note for the housekeepers. However, all in all we enjoyed our stay and would definitely love to come back.

Hi Helen, thank you for taking the time to write a review. I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay, it's a lovely place for a relaxing break isn't it? The location is ideal for heading out exploring and getting out on the fells, it sounds like you managed to fit a lot in!
Thanks for letting me know about the fridge, I'll make sure we get that checked out.
I hope you can come back to explore more of the Lakes soon.

We loved our week in stunning Copeland Cottage in April 2021. We couldn’t get enough of the wonderful views, which were perfectly framed by the windows throughout the house. Our young son loved the friendly wildlife in the adjoining field - horses, pheasants and rabbits. Portinscale is a great base, which combines a tranquil location with easy access to Keswick (20 minutes walk across the fields). The Chalet Tearoom down the road was a fantastic spot for coffee and brunch and, if you want a slightly longer walk through the woods, the Lingholm Estate café does a delicious lunch. The only slight challenge for us in the cottage was the Aga, but the hosts left very good instructions and we soon got the hang of it. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Copeland Cottage (or to return).

Hi Frances, thank you for taking the time to write a review. I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay, it's a lovely place for a relaxing break isn't it? I love Portinscale! The Chalet and Lingholm are both lovely places for a bite to eat, it's always good to let someone else do the cooking for a change when you're on holiday!
I hope you can come back to explore more of the Lakes soon.

Copeland Cottage is a lovely cottage in a brilliant location. We have stayed there twice. You can walk from the cottage to Keswick and around the lake - both of which we enjoyed doing. The cottage was very clean and well equipped. You need to get used to the aga and cooking if using it. We found it slower than a conventional oven. We also found quite a few dead flies and a possible nest in the conservatory. There was a spray to use but it needs to be sorted. We also regularly ran out of hot water and the emertion didn’t seem to work at all. The house was very cold and struggled to heat up in the first two days of our stay. The downstairs bedrooms were extremely cold. It needed to be heated through after the winter and before guests arrived! Our stay was cut short (because of govt restrictions) but the rate per night was increased by 25%. We found this to be frustrating when it wasn’t our choice and the house was cold for 2 out of 4 nights! Overall we had a good time. Beautiful kitchen view onto fields and wildlife.
