Really comfortable and clean cottage. I was amazed to read someone thought it dark with poor lighting and dated décor. It’s a period building and as such this forms part of its character. Lighting was more than adequate for me (considering my modern house with large windows is only marginally brighter than The Coach House). The Kitchen was large, clean and well equipped, in fact, we cooked and ate at the cottage throughout our stay.

The bedroom layout was practical, warm and relaxing. The bed (although not a £3k 2000 pocket sprung handmade mattress with the Queens Coat of Arms sewn along the bottom) was comfortable enough that I sleep well throughout the week despite having had a recent major operation on my back.

The bathroom for me is the icing on the cake. When in the Lakes greeted with its iconic weather, you don’t want a shower (surely not !). You require a large hot bath where you can stretch out and relax with plenty of shelf space , and that is indeed what you get – marvellous !

The way the cottage has been arranged is brilliant, the toilet ‘may’ raise a few eyebrows for the men, but hey, I discovered its more practical to use the facilities the same way as our female companions. In fact, I’m now employing this new method at home. This is part of its character, it’s not an issue, in fact, I find it raises a smile whenever I think about it. Gwan live a little !

Although the weather in November meant we did not use the outside area, it is well laid out, private and offers a little bit of Stonehenge to the Lakes. As an academic Historian, I thought the outside area was brilliant.

In sum, a great cottage, a great area, and a place I would certainly check was available when returning to Eskdale.

Same as living room plus fault on the cooker.
Bathroom
Same again as above rooms and not practical due to low beam over toilet.
Bedroom
Poor mattress and bedding.
