  • Excellent walks on the doorstep around Derwentwater up Latrigg and Castlerigg Stone Circle
Property code: SZ127

Escape to the Lake District National Park with this tasteful bolthole for two just a short stroll from the local amenities.

Located a short walk from the centre of Keswick, this is a delightful lower-ground-floor apartment (basement level bedroom) - a perfect place from which to explore this bustling market town. This spacious one-bedroom apartment is light, bright and airy. There's a wonderful open-plan living/dining/kitchen area, ideal for enjoying a meal before retiring to the sofa to relax in front of the electric flame-effect fire and large flatscreen TV. The king-size bedroom is beautiful with its feature fireplace and shutters, and the bathroom comes complete with a shower over the bath. Outside there is a dedicated parking space in the rear car park.

There's plenty to see and do in Keswick - a week here won't be enough! With a great variety of walks straight from the door, you won't know whether to head up a fell, down to the lake or into the woods first. Fancy a night off from cooking? There are plenty of pubs and restaurants within walking distance to take advantage of. A trip to Keswick Museum and Art Gallery is a must for anyone interested in local history, whilst those after a bit of retail therapy will love strolling round all the outdoor and independent shops on offer. If water is more your thing, adrenaline junkies can try their hand at ghyll scrambling or kayaking with one of the many adventure companies, or why not let someone else do the work and enjoy a cruise around Derwentwater on the popular launch.

If you fancy heading slightly further afield, a day out exploring the beautiful Borrowdale Valley is a must. Pack a picnic and spend a joyful few hours exploring peaceful woods, giant boulders at precarious angles (the famous Bowder Stone), secret caves (once home to 'Professor of Adventure' Millican Dalton), and secret wild-swimming pools. Head south to charming Grasmere. Stock up on their world-famous gingerbread before continuing on your scenic journey through the Lakes to bustling Ambleside and ever popular Bowness-on-Windermere.

The living accommodation is all open plan making it a wonderful sociable space for two. Arranged around a feature electric flame-effect fire, the living area has a sofa and an armchair; a flatscreen TV with Freeview, DVD player and Bluetooth speaker, or simply relax with a good book! The kitchen area is well equipped with everything that you'd need for a self-catering holiday: there's an electric oven and induction hob, built-in dishwasher and free-standing fridge/freezer, as well as a handy microwave and the much-needed kettle and toaster. The washing machine and tumble drier are housed in the utility cupboard. A glass dining table and chairs completes this open-plan room.

Along the corridor you'll find the bedroom and bathroom. The basement-level bedroom is lovely with ample natural light and contains a king-size bed, just perfect for indulging in a long lie in. A modern feature fireplace sits alongside traditional-style shutters for that perfect mix of contemporary style with a country feel. There's also a dressing table area and chest of drawers for storage. The bathroom contains a shower over the bath, WC and double wash basins. Enjoy a relaxing soak in the bath or a quick shower - perfect for invigorating tired muscles after a day out exploring.

Outside is a dedicated parking space in Chaucer House's Car Park, such a bonus so close to the town centre.

Whatever your plans for your time in Keswick, this is a wonderful place to base yourselves and a delightful apartment to retreat to after all your adventures.

Unfortunately the people using flat 6 were heavy footed on what I presume were wooden floors, quite obtrusive noise levels when the occupants were moving around the flat, especially first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Otherwise, a great stay.

A well equipped property in a central location in Keswick. A perfect base for walking and then for eating out in the evening. Some reviews have mentioned noise from the flats above and you can hear people above but we werent troubled in any way.

A really nice apartment with a great location for the town and the parking is a massive bonus. The down side was the noise from the flat above and the footfall from the stairs and the back door . We were disturbed on our first morning at 5am by the people in the flat above (no.6)getting ready to leave which they did at 6am. Most days through our weRead moreek we were disturbed again from the noise from the flat above which was mainly whoever was in there just pacing about late at night and again early Hide

We found Chaucer Gems ideal for our needs. Warm, comfortable and very well equipped, with dedicated parking which is a real bonus in busy Keswick. We are regular visitors to the North Lakes and we definitely consider Chaucer Gems again.

A well-equipped, spacious apartment in an excellent location, with everything you could possibly need while staying in Keswick. The parking space and laundry facilities are a huge bonus. However, dont stay here if youre a light sleeper! The Victorian building construction has no sound insulation between floors and we were woken during the night on Read moremultiple occasions by the noise of footfall in the apartment above. As the flat is below ground level, there is no view at all and its rather dark. Hide

An exceptional apartment, spotlessly clean, well equipped, comfortable & spacious with a very pleasant contemporary feel. We loved it. The only slight disappointment was the lack of any view but overall we felt that all of the good points plus the ideal location more than compensated for this & we would happily return.

This is a wonderful place to stay. It is a spacious property and fully equipped with everything we needed. It's very close to the town centre and a proper parking space was welcome. Everything was spotlessly clean too and a lovely bottle of wine welcomed us. We enjoyed staying here very much.
