Escape to the country in this spectacular family home, which sleeps ten guests and boasts three dining areas and two reception rooms. Enjoy a dip in the outdoor pool, followed by a day exploring the Yorkshire Dales or Lake District National Park.

Located in the peaceful hamlet of Arkholme, not far from Kirkby Lonsdale, this property sleeps up to ten people in five lovely bedrooms. It’s set in 12 acres of grounds, with an outdoor heated swimming pool that’s a delight for families hoping to enjoy a luxurious staycation in Cumbria, with both the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales National Park nearby. This charming house will make for an unforgettable holiday base for you and your family or friends. Two dogs are also welcome to join in on the fun too as this property is pet friendly.

Arkholme itself has a traditional and friendly pub. There are plenty of local footpaths on offer and the quieter country roads in the area are a popular choice with cyclists. The pretty market town of Kirkby Lonsdale has a great choice of eateries as well as quirky independent shops, perfect for indulging in a spot of retail therapy. Visit the famous Devil's Bridge at the eastern end of the town; a scheduled ancient monument, this impressive three-arched bridge is now a popular meeting point and a great spot to enjoy a picnic lunch. Be sure to check out Ruskin's View over the River Lune too, you'll soon see why the poet dubbed this "one of the loveliest views in England".

With both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales within easy reach, why not spend some time exploring both? Head to nearby Ingleton where you can enjoy the popular Waterfalls Trail or visit the stunning White Scar Caves, before enjoying a treat from the popular bakery in the village. Bowness and Windermere in the heart of the South Lakes are a scenic 40-minute drive away and have plenty to entertain all, from attractions and museums to fantastic walking opportunities for all abilities.

As you enter the property, to the right off the grand entrance hallway is the elegant living room. It’s a lovely, light-filled room thanks to the large sash windows, and the chesterfield-style sofas face each other making this a wonderful social space. The cosy snug is ever so inviting, with its jewel-coloured sofa and two matching armchairs. There's a Smart TV in here for entertainment too, perfect for relaxing evenings in.

The country-style kitchen has an AGA as well an additional electric oven and hob. There's also a microwave, toaster, kettle and useful dishwasher too, though with the lovely view over the garden from the sink, you might not mind a bit of washing up! A round table and five chairs are perfect for grabbing a bite to eat or for keeping the cook company. An additional breakfast room houses another round dining table and chairs; from here, sliding doors lead onto the patio. A separate, more formal dining room has a large wooden dining table that can seat up to ten. This elegant room with its feature fireplace and original beams will make every mealtime feel special.

Also on the ground floor is a useful utility room with an additional WC.

Onwards and upwards up the grand staircase to the first floor, where you'll find the five bedrooms and three bathrooms.

The first bedroom you come to is a super-king-size room with a wonderful view over the garden. This bedroom also has its own en-suite bathroom with WC, washbasin and shower over the bath. Next up are the two lovely twin rooms. Both rooms are light, bright and airy and can also be made up as super-king-sizes upon request. The first of the two family bathrooms can be found along the landing, in between the twin rooms. This bathroom is bright and modern with a WC, washbasin, bath and separate shower. Because the property is old. there is low water pressure in some of the bathrooms. The nature of the property means that the pressure is unable to be increased any further.

The next bedroom you come to is a wonderful super-king-size room; with dual aspect windows, it's a lovely room for indulging in a relaxing lie in with your morning cuppa. Next along the landing is the third and final bathroom. In here you'll find a WC, washbasin and shower over bath. Last but by no means least is the lovely king-size room.

The house sits in 12 acres of grounds, with far-reaching views over the surrounding countryside. A wonderful patio area by the rear of the house is where you'll find the star of the show - a fantastic swimming pool! The summerhouse on the corner of the patio is a great chillout space and the patio also has an outdoor table and chairs, ideal for a spot of al fresco dining. Down a couple of steps from the patio is the large lawn that's perfect for adults, children and dogs alike to run off any extra energy! You'll be tempted to spend most of your time out here, making the most of the swimming pool and the extensive grounds.

A truly great house for our family Christmas. Lovely spacious rooms with lots of opportunities to have real fires creating a great atmosphere. The huge Aga was excellent for cooking our Christmas dinner. The kitchen/morning room was a great place for us all to hang out while meals were prepped. A short walk to the church next door for the ChristmasRead more morning service. Lovely views from the house and walks. The house made a significant contribution to our memorable Christmas. Hide

The house is wonderful and in a beautiful village, in a marvellous location. My list of suggestions above is just that for perfection and attention to detail. The refrigerator is too small for 10 people as is the two slice toaster provided. A tin opener and a garlic press that works would be nice additions.

We were a group of friends holidaying together and had a lovely break. There was plenty of space for us to spread out in the house. The kitchen was well set up for large numbers. The pool was warm and the garden area was a great place to play games in.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Chapel House. The interior and exterior of the house was so beautiful. Views from all rooms were picturesque. The pool was great and the garden was well maintained. Great location near both the Lakes and Dales.
