Escape to the Lake District National Park with this homely cottage on the outskirts of the pretty market town of Keswick.
This is a welcome retreat for three people, a stone's throw from the centre of Keswick. A charming mid-terrace cottage built by a local family, here you'll find traditional homey accommodation together with all the modern comforts and conveniences you'd expect: there's a bright living room at the front and a dining kitchen to the rear, with the two bedrooms (one a double and the other a cosy single) and family bathroom on the first floor. There's parking for one car and access to a delightful shared garden - certainly a bonus so close to the town centre.
With Keswick literally on your doorstep, you'll be spoilt for choice with what to see and do first! Those with an interest in local history will love Keswick Museum and Art Gallery, as well as the town's famous Pencil Museum. If retail therapy is more your thing, there's plenty of independent and outdoor shops to mooch around - be sure to stop off at one of the town's many cafes to refuel with coffee and homemade cake. For an evening out, why not take in a film at the family-owned Alhambra cinema, or head to the renowned Theatre by the Lake for a show? Walkers will rejoice as you can lace up your boots and be on the fells- or by the lake in minutes. Head up Latrigg, Walla Crag or Catbells, some of the most popular included in Alfred Wainwright's infamous guidebooks, or enjoy a circular route around the shore of beautiful Derwentwater - you can always hitch a ride on the launch for the return leg of the journey.
If you fancy exploring slightly further afield then Grasmere, once the home of William Wordsworth, is a scenic 20-minute drive from Keswick and well worth a visit. Stock up on some the village's delicious Grasmere Gingerbread, perfect to include in your picnic when exploring nearby White Moss and Rydal Caves. Hawkshead is another charming Lakes village to add to the list. Take the ferry across Windermere from Bowness or enjoy the drive along twisting country roads to explore this gem of a village. Why not head west from Keswick to the picturesque Solway Coast? Or head north to the border city of Carlisle?
Three stone steps lead from road level up to this cosy cottage, which has been refurbished throughout to provide welcoming accommodation.
Open the front door into the bright living room. A two-seater sofa and snuggle chair are positioned around the gas effect fire, ideal for cosy evenings in, and for entertainment there's a TV with Freeview. At the back of the cottage is the spacious dining kitchen. In here you'll find an electric oven with gas hob, under-counter fridge, useful washing machine and handy microwave, not forgetting a toaster and kettle for that important morning cuppa! With feature tiles and plenty of cookware, the chefs in the group are sure love cooking in here. Gather round the wooden dining table, the perfect place to compare notes on the day's events over a delicious home-cooked meal. By the back door is a handy bench, just the spot to rest a moment before continuing onwards to the first floor.
Head up the stairs and you'll find the bedrooms and bathroom. The master bedroom contains a double bed, with a wardrobe and chest of drawers for storage. Thanks to its position at the front of the house, this bedroom benefits from lovely views over the surrounding rooftops to the fells beyond. The fantastic feature (non-working) fireplace shows the cottage's character and the pine dressing table is a great addition to this lovely bedroom. The delightful single bedroom is at the back of the house. A useful open storage unit in here has shelves and hanging space for those who like to unpack their bags. In between the two is the family bathroom, with a shower over the bath (as well as a WC and wash basin).
Outside the back door is access to the shared rear garden. Accessed by stone steps, the rear garden can be a real suntrap in the evenings making it the perfect spot to unwind after a day out exploring (please note: there is a significant difference of level in the garden and young children should not be left unsupervised). If people watching is more your thing, take a seat out to the front of the cottage and simply watch the world go by.
