General Description

Brant Le'ath, which means 'barn on the hill', is a stunning barn conversion for up to five people in the sleepily charming village of Hesket Newmarket. Blessed with three lovely bedrooms, glorious views from its garden and elegant airy social spaces it really makes a wonderful holiday home for a family or two couples keen to explore the surrounding northern fells. The house has been thoughtfully converted to retain many architectural features from the original building while harnessing all the available light to give it a modern fresh interior. The owner has taken great care with the d├ęcor and layout using thoughtfully chosen local art and beautiful textiles to bring out the cottage's character.

On arrival at the house guests first enter into the spacious porch where there is a monk's bench, coat hooks and plenty of space for walking boots and wellies. This takes you on into the gorgeous open-plan living and dining area. The wooden dining table is set below the staircase in the double height windows that were once the entrance to the barn. A large brick surrounded opening takes you through to the elegant living room. Beautifully decorated, it has a delightful feeling of space and is absolutely flooded with light from the windows and French doors which lead out onto the terrace. There's plenty of room to spread out with two sofas and an armchair arranged around the large wood burning stove. To entertain you on quiet evenings there is a large TV with Freeview, a Humax recordable box as well and a Blu-ray player. For ambience there's also a stereo with Ipod docking station.

Beyond the open plan living space is the large, modern kitchen. It's very well equipped with double oven, ceramic hobs, fridge freezer, microwave and dishwasher. Once again light has been harnessed to great effect with dual aspect windows, glorious views, light modern units and quartz worktops. From the utility room guests access the back door and the garage. There's a washing machine, tumble dryer and a downstairs WC in the utility space.

Moving upstairs firstly to the en-suite master bedroom. It has a king-size wooden bedframe, two windows with lovely views, a wardrobe and chest of drawers. The en-suite shower room has an electric shower in a curved enclosure. The second bedroom is built into the eaves of the building. It has a double bed, a wardrobe with drawers for storage and a picture-perfect skylight with a simply gorgeous view. The single bedroom has a wardrobe for storage and yet another of those marvellous views. The last upstairs room is the lovely family bathroom; it has a modern suite and an over-bath mixer shower.

Brant Le'ath's outside space is an absolute treat with wonderful views of the surrounding fields and rolling hills. The French doors lead out from the living room onto a wonderful raised terrace with seating for dining al fresco. Sandstone steps lead down to the sloping lawn on which there is a small pond (please keep an eye on young children), mature planting for year-round colour and a further patio at the bottom of the garden to make use of the evening sun. Depending on the timing of your visit, the neighbouring fields are inhabited by ponies and sheep. Spring is especially entertaining with gambolling lambs all around. The gated driveway can comfortably hold two cars and there's also a lockable garage for bike storage if you come along ready to cycle the lovely quiet roads around Hesket Newmarket.
