Valentine's Day in the Lake District

The Lake District repeatedly tops polls as the country’s most romantic destination, so wouldn’t you just love to enjoy a Valentine’s break here? Below are my picks of some cottages that are just perfect for you and your other half to get away from it all, as well as some dreamy things that you could get up to during your break.

Hillcrest Cottage, Ennerdale

Why not try: Go climbing on Pillar Rock. If you’re a couple who likes adventure and physical challenge, the Lake District is an ideal destination. Pillar Rock, near Ennerdale, is where the first pioneers of Lakeland climbing practiced their skills back in the 1820s. Pillar has climbing to suit all abilities and guided tours are available from a number of providers.

Little Winder, Ullswater

Little Winder near UllswaterLittle Winder is a single storey cottage within the grounds of a 17th century house. Set in a blissfully tranquil location and surrounded by woods and fields, it is a cosy spot for two to hide away from the world.

Located near Pooley Bridge, the grounds provide direct access to the open fells and attract an array of wildlife including red squirrels, deer, badgers, and various birdlife. There are stunning panoramic views over the Lowther, Eamont, and Eden Valleys and a short walk away you can find a superb view over Ullswater.
