Things to do in October

October is not all about half term and Halloween! There is plenty to do for adults, couples or friends seeking a break this month in one of our cottages in the Lake District. Here is our pick of the best:

Beer & Bangers takes place across south-west Cumbria with venues in Millom, Broughton in Furness, Duddon Valley, and Ravenglass, all of which are easily reached from our Lake District Cottages. This area of the Lake District has a reputation for exceptional local produce. Discover the origins of the specialty Cumberland Sausages with brewery tours and cookery demonstrations. You can also join the self-guided walks available locally should you indulge too much!

Cumberland Sausage at CranstonsC-Art is a Cumbria wide event through the Lake District and Eden Valley – look out for the bright yellow signs. Artists open up their homes and studios to the public, offering an opportunity to buy art direct from the producer and visit the landscapes that have inspired them. The locations are often in far flung areas of Cumbria giving you a chance to explore away from the usual tourist trail.

Lake District guided walks take place all month with a variety of lengths and grades to chose from. Stride out with a Lake District Park Ranger and enjoy like-minded company on a guided walk through some of our loveliest scenery. Pick up a guide at the nearest tourist information office for more information.

The Wasdale Shepherds meet is held at Wasdale Head each October. Historically the shepherds would walk over the fells from neighbouring valleys with their sheep but things are a little more modern these days. Expect a wonderfully traditional show with the usual terrier racing, local crafts, vintage machinery and fell racing.
