Mill Cottage in Bassenthwaite - Perfect for a pet friendly and family friendly holiday in the Lake District.
We have recently added Mill Cottage in Bassenthwaite to the Sally’s Lake District cottages website. The cottage sleeps 4 and accepts one dog (or two small dogs by prior arrangement). The cottage owner is a real dog lover and you can be sure that you and your dog will receive a warm welcome.
Bassenthwaite is a real haven of tranquility, tucked in a quiet corner of the Lake District. It’s also a great village for a family friendly holiday in the Lake District and comes with a real personal recommendation as up until recently we have lived in the village ourselves.
There are very few cars in the village as there is no through route, so it’s really quiet and there is a lovely little beck that runs through the village, which is a great place to socialize, while the kids play on the swings or have a paddle. The ducks are really friendly too and always come and say hello.
The village green is perfect for children (or grown ups) to run round or have a game of football and there are loads of walks, either through the woodland around the village or up onto the mighty Skiddaw.
There are great views of Skiddaw from everywhere in the village and you can hike up the mountain from the door of Mill Cottage. Rob’s favourite route was always to go via High Side and Ullock Pike, which gives fabulous views of Bassenthwaite Lake and the Lorton Fells opposite and offers the most varied ascent of the mountain. For a round trip you can descend via Dash Falls and Peterhouse Farm.
To round off your day, the Sun Inn in Bassenthwaite is a great Lakeland pub, which serves excellent food made with quality local ingredients and has a good selection of fine local ales. It’s a Jennings pub and the Cockerhoop is recommended.
