Let's Go Fly A Kite

About ten years ago I bought Rob a Christmas present.  It was a kite.  I thought it was an inspired idea.  I thought it would be fun.  I thought it would be exhilarating.  “Bah humbug” said he.   And so the very expensive kite sat in a cupboard for ten years and I decided that Rob was not a good person to buy presents for.

Flying kitesThis weekend, however, Rob ate his words.  Sunday arrived with a fabulous frost and beautiful blue skies.  It was as windy as a windy thing though and not good for tramping up the Lake District mountains.  It was, though, absolutely perfect kite flying conditions.  We duly found the kite in the cupboard (not bad after ten years I thought) and took it out for it’s first fly.

Rob is now hooked and is allowing me once again to buy presents for him.

I would recommend that anyone staying in our Lake District cottages should get in touch with their inner child and bring a kite on holiday.  It’s addictive!

Better still, come for KiteFest – an annual kiting event which takes place in May on Haverigg beach (Western Lake District).  As well as kite flying and displays there are bouncy castles, stalls, refreshments and a climbing wall.  And it’s free.  Our nearest Lake District Cottages there are in the Duddon Valley, Broughton area and Coniston, as well as Ravenglass and Eskdale slightly further up the Lake District coast.
