Sometimes there's nothing better than the feeling of complete isolation in a fabulously remote holiday cottage! Imagine waking up to panoramic views over acres of open countryside and listening to the sound of nature! We've rounded up some of our top remote Lake District Cottages for you here!
Swinsty is about as remote as it gets. You have to drive virtually the length of Ullswater and negotiate the hairpin bends of the Hawes to reach Martindale. The road terminates a little further past Swinsty and beyond that it is just open fellside. Martindale is home to a herd of red deer and you can hear the males rutting during autumn.
Burnthwaite Farm Cottage is on a working Lake District farm so you can’t escape other people completely but what you can experience is the clear fresh air at the very foot of some of the tallest mountains in the Lake District. Burnthwaite is at the road end in Wasdale half a mile from the pub. And quite a few miles away from the nearest mobile phone signal unless you fancy hiking to the top of Great Gable!
The Barn in Longsleddale is also on a small working farm. The idyllic valley of Longsleddale was the inspiration for John Cunliffe’s Postman Pat stories. Longsleddale is the perfect location to enjoy stargazing on a clear night with no light pollution to colour the inky black night sky.
Esk View is a large holiday home in Eskdale, overlooking fields of grazing Herdwick sheep and the mountains. This dog-friendly property is the perfect starting point for hundreds of walks, either on the fells or along the banks of the River Esk. The river has natural pools for swimming and you can even enjoy canoeing and fishing.
