Five FAQs about our cottages

We ran a competition on Facebook recently and decided to invite people to ask us questions about our self catering cottages.  Here are the top five questions that folk really wanted to know the answer to.

1. The most romantic cottage?
This was a hard one, there are so many! I like Blencathra Cottage in Threlkeld, and Swallows Rest in the Eden Valley. Blencathra Cottage has a gorgeous view down the valley of St John’s in the Vale, you can enjoy it from the bed in the double bedroom. Swallows Rest has been refurbished with adults in mind. The owners have the woodburner lit on arrival and provide a sumptuous welcome pack. Best of all, you can enjoy a glass of wine at the top of the sandstone steps and watch the fantastic sunsets.

2. Which has the comfiest bed?
For me a comfy bed equals a king size bed. Rather handily, we have a search term just for king size beds. So whether you are 6 foot tall or you just like a bit of space to spread out, you can narrow the list of cottages just to see the ones with a king size bed.

3. Are the cottages dog friendly?
Yes! Well most of them are anyway. We have a dedicated section on our website listing our dog friendly cottages. Most of us here at Sally’s Cottage have a dog and we are always keen to share our favourite walks and dog friendly places to eat.

4. Which cottage has the perfect spring garden?
We are spoilt for choice when it comes to beautiful cottage gardens. Several of our Eskdale cottages back onto Giggle Alley - beautiful woodlands with Japanese gardens. The clear choice for me however  is a cottage in Rannerdale by Crummock Water; Rannerdale Close. The famous Rannerdale bluebells grow profusely in the garden and smell heavenly.

5. Do we have a cottage close to the beach?
The Lake District is surprisingly close to the coast. Eskdale has its own steam railway with a journey of 7 incredibly scenic miles to the coast at Ravenglass. We have several cottages in Ravenglass including Rivers End that has a balcony overlooking the beach. You can also drive to the coast from cottages in the Keswick and Cockermouth area. Sun Inn Cottages are within a 20 minute drive of the beach at Allonby – there is a famous ice cream parlour here and a lovely sandy beach.
