The popularity of cycling has exploded in recent years, with cycle shops, cafes and routes opening up all over Cumbria. Many of our self catering cottages in the Lake District are handily located for enjoying all the fabulous cycling Cumbria has to offer, whether you are an adrenaline junkie or a casual weekend cyclist.
We are slightly biased, but we feel that the Eden Valley offers some of the most scenic cycling, and what’s more, much of it is suitable for the more occasional cyclist as it is for hardened experts.
A large section of the coast to coast passes through Eden, as well as two other long distance rides, Walney to Whitby and the Pennine Cycleway.
Cycling along quiet rural roads and bridleways really is a delightful way to take in the beautiful rolling scenery of the Eden Valley. But what if you want to take things easier? Eden Electric Cycles based near Penrith offers battery-assisted bikes for hire, to give you a helping hand up some of the tougher inclines. The bikes have a range of over 60 miles, and a wide recharging network of cafes and tourist attractions – so you can recharge whilst grabbing a brew. We recommend the Greystoke Cycle Café!
The hire charges are very reasonable too, £25 for single day and reduced rates for multiple days, plus the recharging is free. We have a growing number of cottages in the Lake District and in the Eden Valley where you can hire the electric bikes and get out to enjoy the wonderful scenery.
