Cockermouth is holding a series of late night shopping events where local business have got together and arranged special events including music and tasting sessions in locals pubs and bars. The events are happening once a week until Christmas and are an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful lights in Cockermouth and the friendly atmosphere and ambience in this north Lake District town where we have several lovely self catering Lake District cottages.

Shills of Cockermouth is a gorgeous deli and has recently moved into bigger premises to show case their delightful wares. The café and wine bar serves tapas style nibbles and cocktails. The deli sells all kinds of local produce but in particular, Bedrook Vodka, boxed cigars and artisan chocolate. Perfect shopping location for a foodie!
You might not actually need a light shade or new fitting, but you have to visit Lime Lighting just to experience the interior. The building is a former ballroom and cinema and the staggered seating is still in place, only now it has been replaced with rows and rows of lamps
The New Bookshop is how a bookshop should be, a maze of bookshelves where you never know what is around each corner. The owners support local owners, hold poetry and book reading events. There is also an excellent coffee shop to the rear of the shop.
On Main Street is The Toy Shop, a proper toyshop with a really helpful owner, selling traditional toys as well as the more modern crazes. Inside the shop you can see the level that the 2009 floodwaters rose to.
For a beautiful gift for the home, try Bitter Beck Pottery, a ceramics gallery with every piece unique, crafted using leaves and plants as inspiration. Lily & Co is something of a treasure trove, selling gorgeous gifts for the home, hand crafted silver jewelry and beautiful mango wood furniture.
Fagans is an emporium of all things lovely. Starting with jewellery and watches, the shop turns a series of covers to reveal china mugs, ornaments, crystal and other decorative items, before finally a cavernous kitchenware section selling Le Creuset amongst other luxury brands.
Cockermouth Country Clothing sells all you would expect for the more traditional outdoors person. On Main Street you will find Jacy’s for lingerie and swimwear.
White & Green on Station Street specialises in pretty gifts for the home and garden. Think gorgeous homeware, unique cards and unique interior design pieces. My personal favourite is the white ceramic parrot!
Number 15 proudly sells purely British made goods and beautiful individual pieces of local art and sculpture.
In the Art & Craft shop, there is a dedicated card-making table for children, to keep them entertained whilst you browse. Work by local artists is displayed inside and the shop also offers a framing service. The shop is running make your own Christmas cards over the coming weeks.
