August Bank Holiday is the biggest weekend in the racing calendar at Cartmel Racecourse. Over the weekend several big races take place
The popular Cartmel Cup Day is held on Saturday 24th August. The day starts at 10am with family entertainment around the course, a big funfair, trade stalls and plenty of space for a picnic or barbecue. Racing starts at 2pm with a feature race. Hybrid bikes can be hires to make your way around the vast site.
On Bank Holiday Monday there is a family fun-day with a similar format to Saturday – entertainment starts from 10am and the first race at 2.20pm. In addition to the funfair, there is a best dressed dog competition.
Tickets for the paddock allow access to the grand Champagne Bar and the winner’s enclosure, and to the fantastic view from the grandstand.
Cartmel racecourse is easily reached from our Lake District cottages across the Southern Peninsulas, the Duddon Valley and the Southern Lake District, and is within an hours drive of more central areas.
