Blackberry Picking in the Lake District

Published:

This morning I took advantage of a late start at work and the glorious sunshine to get out on my bike along the old railway line from Keswick. I noticed that the blackberry bushes along the way were starting to bear large juice berries.  Another few days of warm sunshine and these will be ready for picking.

If you were thinking of a last minute break to one of our self catering cottages, you can be sure that our cottages are never more than a stones throw away from a lovely walk where you could pick your own blackberries!

The old railway line near Keswick has plenty of bushes ready to bear fruit, but these are easy to get to, so you will have to be quick. Other good spots include Whinlatter Forest and Dodd Wood where you can also find wild raspberries.

September is the perfect month for a short break in the Lake District and we have many self catering cottages offering last minute deals and mid week breaks now that the school term has begun. The days might be slightly shorter, but the colours are all the richers and the sun just as warm!
