Most of the visitors to our self catering Lake District cottages are coming to enjoy walks, take in the fabulous views and spend time in our towns and villages.
But what if you are not that steady on your feet, you use a wheelchair, or have other mobility needs? Many of our cottages are over a hundred years old - ex mining cottages, converted barns and grand Georgian town houses. These properties were not built with special mobility needs in mind. The characteristic features of uneven slate floors and steep winding staircases might be great fun for some people but definitely not for others.
When visitors ring us or email or regarding a cottage, we love to chat, and we have come to learn what it is that people with mobility needs are looking for when it comes to finding a cottage.
So we have compiled two special new search terms to enable holidaymakers to find the right cottage.
Wheelchair users can chose from a selection of cottages that have specific features to make their stay a happy one – level access, ramps, grab rails in bathrooms and wooden floors or shallow pile carpets. If you email or telephone us, then we can give you all the detail you need.
If you are a part time wheelchair user or perhaps use crutches or a stick to get around, then you can search through our list of cottages that have ground floor accommodation and a shower room. These cottages might have a step or two into the cottage, or maybe one inside, but you can be reassured that our descriptions are as accurate as possible to help you make your decision.
Many of our accessible cottages are dog friendly too.
