As a group (all separate households) we had all 3 cottages in the complex.
All of the cottages had a strong distinct smell of oil from the heating boiler. This was a strong smell and was not pleasant. On a visit to the pub adjacent to the cottages, the owners of the pub informed us they owned the cottages. We explained the smell. Their response was its what you get from all oil heating systems. It was evident they had no interest. Two of the cottages have boilers in the kitchens. This is not acceptable in food preparation areas.
Further evidence of the lack of interest of the owners came the next evening when we went to the pub for a meal. At 0920 the landlady refused to serve drinks as she wished to close at 1000? This resulted in us not using this pub all week. This was not a welcoming attitude. Others were in the bar!
The cottages (except Little Mel) are very tired and are in need of decoration and some refurbishment. Which also meant cleanliness was not really achieved. In Covid-19 times this was concerning.
On a positive the showers were excellent.
To summarise, oil heating was not acceptable, the buildings are tired and in need of decoration. Owners need to be more hospitable.

Rundown and in need of a refurbishment. Mould on the walls. Broken shower hose. Patched together kitchen.

The smell of kerosene means the skylight has to be left open. Had to clean the cutlery, crockery and glasses before we used them. The fridge smells. There is no freezer compartment.

Good location and lovely food at the pub next door. However the cottage needs some attention and the overall cleanliness was not, in my opinion, acceptable. On the evening of our arrival we reported the sink in the en-suite was blocked. We were assured that someone would attend to it a.s.a.p however nobody came and it remained blocked for the remainder of our stay.We had to clean the en-suites and remove considerable amounts of previous occupants hair from the plug holes and clean inside the fridge particularly the salad compartment before we could use it. These are all things in my opinion, that should have been spotted as part of the cleaning routine by the owners/manager.

Thank you for your review Charlotte - the cottage is in a fab location isn't it and lovely pub grub next door! The owner is sorry to hear that you had some concerns during your stay, especially with the plug. the staff at the pub don't work on the cottages, so it's always best to contact the owner or ourselves if you have any issues. The owner would have been happy to get this sorted for you right away had they known. They will of course take your feedback on board and address any cleanliness concerns moving forward. I hope you are able to return to the Lakes for another trip soon.
