Charming, stone-built barn converted into comfortable accommodation sleeping six guests that is well situated to explore Blencathra and other fells in the heart of the Lake District.

This cottage is part of a large stone-built barn sympathetically converted into three holiday cottages providing comfortable self-catering accommodation. It is situated in an imposing position at the foot of Blencathra with stunning views across the valley to Threlkeld common and Clough Head. The start of a walk up Blencathra can commence from the front door of the property.

The inn, situated behind the cottage, offers homemade bar meals and good ale, welcoming dogs and children. There are two more great country pubs in Threlkeld only a mile away, both serving good food and fine ales.

The market town of Keswick is just 5 miles away by car along the A66, or by a lovely walk which follows the old railway line with wooded areas and passes over the Victorian iron railway bridges. The imposing mountain of Skiddaw is also only a short distance away.

The large private patio area to the front of the cottage has wonderful views across the fells and is south facing. A further BBQ and picnic area is shared with the two adjoining holiday cottages. The cottage is situated in an easy accesible position by the A66 but set high up above it.

The main doorway leads into a large open-plan dining room and lounge with comfortable seating and TV, video, DVD player and CD/Radio. There is a dining table and chairs for up to six people. The kitchen leading off from here is well equipped with electric oven and hob, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, microwave and washer/dryer.

The ground floor shower room has shower cubicle, wash basin and WC. A stairway leads down to a double and a twin bedroom, and bathroom with bath and shower over, WC and wash basin. The hallway from this level leads onto the large patio area with table and chairs. The stairway from the ground floor leads onto the first floor with large double bedroom.

There is also an extra sitting-out area in the communal BBQ and large picnic area shared with the adjoining two cottages.

Parking is to the side of the property in a large off-road parking area.

Having read reviews before booking we were aware that the cottage needed a refurb but we were still surprised at how badly stained the carpets were and how tired the cottage was in general. Having said that it suited us well and the location was ideal

PROs: Comfy beds with comfy clean bedding, hot showers and well located with good pub opposite and easy onto the fells. Cottage was toasty. BUT really needs some TLC: broken furniture, dishwasher not working, kitchen tired (earlier reviewers said similar), little things like too few wine glasses, hob has no "hot" light, fridge light not working, nuRead morember of light bulbs need replaced. Struggled to keep bath running hot. It was fine for our last-min planned hols but definitely needs some attention Hide

Very run down. Cheaper cottage but would still expect equipment to work . So many things broken or not working correctly . Upstairs bedroom an utter disgrace. Chest of drawers had no fronts. If you couldn't repair it at least remove it. No proper working blind . Dodgy fridge door held together with screws into plastic. Dishwasher wouldn't dissolve Read moretablet. Shower was blocked had to sort that . Various bulbs not working. Will not be returning there. Hide

The accommodation is spacious. The location is very good for exploring the Northern Lakes. The White Horse Inn behind the property is useful for meals. Would recommend but the accommodation requires some furniture items replacing.

We've stayed in this property a number of times during the past 10 years and it is well located with good access to an excellent pub, good parking and has good usable accommodation. The interior and equipment is showing signs of age and the property would benefit from a re-fit and re-fresh. The property is in serious need of simple maintenance; broken chairs, insecure door handles, loose window catches, broken drawers, broken window blinds, chaotic car parking the road noise from the A66 traffic is deafening all day long - the list goes on and on. It seems you as owners and other patrons have followed your caveat of ' leave the properRead morety has you found it' to the letter. Expensive and disappointing accommodation in its entirety. This is the 3rd year we have stayed here and this year we came up with family who rented one of the other 2 cottages. Gives us everything we needed. Cottage was clean and perfectly situated for Northern Lakes. White Hirse pub just opposite dies fantastic food and well worth a visit. This will not be our last visit

Conveniently located for the northern lakes. Super walks from the door especially if you have dogs. 2 bedrooms downstairs and one at top of house with lounge/ kitchen on middle floor. Found the house noisy due to traffic during the day but calmed down at night. Good private parking area.

This cottage is spacious and ideal for a family. Some of the furniture needs updating. The kitchen is well equipped.
