Enjoying an idyllic location on a working dairy farm, this cosy annexe makes a fantastic retreat for a couple seeking a quiet getaway in beautiful surroundings just to the north of the Lake District.

Situated in a peaceful location on a working dairy farm, this is a perfect retreat from the stresses of everyday life. This one-bedroom cottage has been beautifully designed for your comfort, feeling warm and welcoming as soon as you step through the door. Close the curtains and snuggle up on the sofa in the winter or on warm summer evenings, throw open the French doors and enjoy time on the patio soaking up the peace, quiet and rural views. Keep to yourselves or get involved with farm life; discover the quiet spots only known to the locals or hit the tourist hotspots; be active or relax; whatever you choose, this is a beautiful spot to base yourself to do it.

The cottage has an enviable location with having the feeling of rural isolation to come home to, yet being only 3 miles from the bustling market town of Cockermouth, 4.5miles from historic Maryport and 20 minutes from Keswick; hub of the northern fells. You have the best of both worlds here in this unspoilt corner of Cumbria. For an evening stroll, the nearby inn offers locally sourced traditional pub food, cask ales and a warm welcome a mile down a quiet lane. You are also welcome to walk round the farm and the owners offer a tour if you are interested in learning more. A network of local footpaths allows exploration of the local countryside including linking via Dearham down to Maryport and the coast for a full-day walk.

With easy access to the Solway and west Cumbrian coasts, the quieter western fells plus the tourist hotspots around Keswick, Bendale is ideally located for exploring north and west Cumbria. Lovely little Allonby offers an old-fashioned day by the seaside, find out about West Cumbria’s mining heritage in Whitehaven or investigate the roman origins of Maryport. Heading inland choose from numerous beautiful lesser known walks around Ennerdale, Back o’ Skiddaw and Loweswater or the ever-popular walks around Keswick and Derwentwater. Historic Carlisle is only half an hour away with its museum, castle, riverside walks and good range of shops and restaurants. For a pampering treat, try an afternoon at Armathwaite spa or how about a tour of the Lakes Distillery near Bassenthwaite or Jennings Brewery in Cockermouth? Both conclude with the all-important tastings!

Looking for a quiet rural retreat in a lovely location which is in easy reach of everything north-west Cumbria has to offer? Give this cottage a try; the only thing you will regret is not booking to stay for longer!

The cottage forms an extension to the owner's farmhouse but is very private with windows overlooking the gardens and yard. This is part of a traditional family farm and although the cottage itself is not a historic building the stone barn opposite contains repurposed Roman stone to balance it out!

From the parking area behind the stone barn step up through the gate into an enclosed paved patio area and in through the French doors to the spacious living room/kitchen.

This attractive room is dual aspect with a window onto the yard plus the French doors overlooking the patio and rural views beyond, perfect for summer evenings. A two-seat sofa plus a chair with footstool invite you to kick back and relax in front of the electric stove; flick a switch and you have instant extra cosiness for nights in. A coffee table awaits a cuppa or a favourite tipple whilst the Smart TV provides your entertainment should you so wish. A wide selection of DVDs is housed on a bookshelf and there is free Wi-Fi. You will also find a welcome gift of wine and chocolates to kick-start that holiday feeling.

The kitchen is at the back of the room with a breakfast bar dividing it off from the living area. The two stools behind the breakfast bar face out to the French doors so you can take in the views across the fields whilst enjoying a relaxing breakfast. The oven and hob are electric and there is also a microwave and integrated fridge in this smart and well-equipped kitchen with tiled floor and splashback.

On the right of the main living room is a door leading into a spacious dual-aspect bedroom, wake up to nothing but bird song with lovely views of the garden and across the fields to the Lorton fells. The king-size bed is accessorised with lamps on the headboard and bedside tables, solid wood wardrobe and chest of drawers provide ample storage. A chair and mirror complete the furniture in this cosy welcoming room.

Behind the kitchen area is a door to the left into the shower room with a tiled floor and plenty of space for carrying out your ablutions.

Outside the French doors is a private enclosed patio area with table and chairs surrounded by colourful planters full of flowers. The views are beautiful looking across pasture fields to the Lorton Fells beyond and Skiddaw hiding shyly behind the trees. Guests are also welcome to use the farmhouse garden behind the cottage which is beautifully kept by the owner.

Susan couldnt have been more pleasant and helpful, her dog and two cats are real characters. The work of the farm is unobtrusive and sitting on the terrace on a lovely evening is wonderfully therapeutic. An excellent stay.

We had a lovely stay in this comfortable cottage, in a peaceful setting. It's convenient for accessing the surrounding area, although a car is essential. Sarah was most helpful and friendly, so was her dog! We would highly recommend a stay here.

The property is on a working farm in a quiet but handy location , convenient for the coast, Cockermouth and the Western Lakes. We found it very comfortable and it had plenty of space for the two us and was well equipped. The owner was extremely helpful and like everyone we met round there very friendly.
