There was an incident with the heating where we had no control over it. It turned out to be flat batteries in the wall mounted thermostat control. We found some replacement ones in the cleaners store and everything then worked. The cottage has more appeal at the rear, with its lovely garden reaching down to a brook. The front road that it faces on to could be a bit busy in summer, given that it is the main (only!) route between Borrowdale and Buttermere. However, we found it a lovely peaceful location in January and winter use has the advantage of being able to park right outside the cottage instead of the nearby National Trust carpark. There are summer time restrictions for parking on the road in Summer. Overall we had an enjoyable stay and have no complaints.

Hi David, many thanks for your comments. I've flagged the battery situation and will look into it further for you. It really is a lovely garden, isn't it? So happy to hear you had such an enjoyable stay.

Bells Crags is a delightful small cottage in an idyllic spot with lovely walks right on your doorstep and made a perfect Christmas break. The cottage was well equipped, spotlessly clean and cosy. Although the kitchen is small, the attached dining room and two pantries(one of them with a large fridge) more than compensated for this. If you are looking for a quiet, comfortable retreat for a small party in a beautiful location then I would highly recommend Bells Crags. We had a great Christmas. Thank you.

Bell Crags is a lovely retreat in a stunning area of the Lake District. I have not rated 'Local Amenities' because there are no shops etc walkable BUT this is what we wanted, so for us the amenities were great but if you wanted shops etc it would be a low score. We had a wonderful break away from civilisation and spent a great week walking various paths around Bell Crags and beyond. Other than the arrival and departure days we had stunning autumnal weather, cold, crisp & bright so the Lakes were shown off to their full potential and I remembered why I loved visiting the Lakes as a child. Needless to say we will be back. Kathy, Ian, James, Jack & Maddie (the dog!)
