- We enjoyed our stay, largely due to the location of the cottage, across the road from Derwentwater. Beautiful area, stunning views. Traffic noise was a downside, meaning bedroom windows remained closed as it’s right next to the road, a main route into Keswick but on the plus side, across the road from the bus stop so travel into Keswick is easy without a car or walking along Derwentwater.
The cottage has a comfortable lounge and a modern kitchen with washing machine (would’ve been helpful to have some pegs to make use of the washing lines on good weather days).
Very disappointed with the beds in the twin room- mattresses were old and gave little support , springs were evident and as a result, poor nights sleep. Really need replacing urgently. Mattress in the single room was better. Double room was fine.
Bathroom was dated but functional. The over the bath electric shower meant good supply of hot water. Main issue was the state of the grouting and tiles near the shower - stained, missing in parts and loose tiles, creating a gap between tiles and wall. One fell off at the end of our stay as a guest was showering. Not really the standard we had expected when we booked.
Our feedback however is similar to other reviewers who have recently stayed there but the reviews were posted after our booking.
Would not advise leaving anything on the lakeshore if swimming alone- dry robe and bag were stolen sadly, which we understand is unusual but an expensive loss.
Overall rating would have been much higher were it not for the state of the beds and bathroom as it really is a lovely spot.
