Property code: SZ053

Take a trip to rural Cumbria and discover the glorious valley of Wasdale, staying on a welcoming farm amongst the herdwick sheep and pedigree dairy goats.

Situated in the beautiful Wasdale valley, this holiday cottage provides lovely self-catering accommodation on a traditional working Lakeland hill farm where Herdwick sheep graze alongside a small herd of pedigree dairy goats.

Wasdale itself is a valley of extremes. It boasts England's deepest lake (Wastwater), highest mountain (Scafell), smallest church (St Olaf's) and the world’s biggest liar competition (each November, in the Santon Bridge Inn). Wastwater lake is a couple of miles from the farm and there are many good swimming spots on its shores.

There are hundreds of walks right from the door of this cottage and you are more than welcome to bring your dog with you. Footpaths lead from the farm up the fellside to Nether Wasdale Common and Scafell beyond. There are three pubs in the valley, the nearest pub is 1.1 miles away. In Gosforth village (3 miles), you will find everyday provisions.

Eskdale is another lovely valley, only 15 minutes' drive away, with hundreds of river and mountain walks. It also houses a terminus for the Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway - a popular miniature railway that travels 7 scenic miles to the coastal fishing village of Ravenglass. Muncaster Castle, Gardens and Hawk and Owl Centre is also 15 minutes away and has lots going on all year round, especially for children

This cottage has been featured in The Times' Ultimate Staycation Guide 2021.

The front door opens into the first-floor living area. This comprises of an open-plan kitchen and dining area with table and chairs to seat four people.

The living area has fantastic views of the Wasdale fells. A large comfortable sofa and armchair provide seating around the 42' smart TV. This is linked to the internet to ensure your viewing is not interrupted, by the remote location of the cottage. All freeview channels or log into your TV accounts, so you can enjoy a great night in, watching all your favourite shows

The kitchen is equipped with oven, hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave and storage space. A supply of tea, coffee and sugar is provided as are dishwasher tablets and washing-up liquid.

From the first-floor living area, stairs lead down to two bedrooms and a shower room with shower, wash basin and WC. There is double bedroom with ample storage, and a bunk bedroom with adult-sized bunks.

In a separate outbuilding, a washing machine and tumble dryer are provided for you to use with complimentary washing powder. There is an iron and ironing board in the cottage.

Outside is a garden area and drying green with garden furniture. The elevated position of the garden offers fantastic views of the Wasdale fells.

The cottage is heated by night storage heaters and also a convector heater in each room. There is some light mobile reception in the property on the major networks but this shouldn't be relied upon.  You also have access to the shared car charging point, just contact the owners to arrange use and payment.

Really nice little place, Margie and Adrian made us feel very welcome, as did the goats, chickens and sheepdog Flo. Amazing location with easy access to some great walking and cycling routes, and great views. Comfortable for two with decent kitchen for preparing simple meals. Nice bathroom with really good shower.

A really lovely spot for a quiet Lakes holiday at a good price, with chickens and goats to keep you company. Views across the lower end of Wasdale are gorgeous; walks up the fell from the cottage and down to the lake are all good. Local pub food at Bridge Inn excellent, and Gosforth shops have all you need for self catering.

This was a wonderful place to spend a week in August - it was so quiet that it didn't feel like summer holidays in the Lake District. The accommodation was comfortable and full of character, and our hosts were so helpful and friendly. Our children loved being able to explore the garden, feed the goats and play with the sheepdog. The beach (with fisRead moreh and chips) at Seascale was excellent. The shuttle bus runs past the end of drive on its way to Wasdale Head at weekends. Highly recommended. Hide
