Dorothy's barn was the perfect place to relax and unwind. It is well located and an easy drive to lots of great walks. It's just a 10 minute drive to Threkheld which is the start of the Blencathra walk and has a lovely coffee shop (as recommended by Dorothy). The kitchen is well equipped and the living room is a lovely space to rest up in after a long walk. There is a large eclectic Dvd selection and walking maps were available if needed.

Top tip: There's a great farm shop (Cocklakes) really close by which we cannot recommend enough!

Overall we had a lovely holiday at Artist's Barn. The barn is situated in a quieter area of the Lakes with stunning views of the Lakeland fells to the West. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and stylishly furnished with everything we needed. The owner gave us a warm welcome and was attentive throughout. We did have a slight issue with the shower. However, this was dealt with immediately by the owner, with a plumber arriving at the property within 20mins of being called.
With the accommodation being next to farmland and the close proximity of sheep in the fields, then there does appear to be an issue with flys and therefore we would advise not to leave doors and windows open during the Summer months. This in itself was not a problem to us, as the barn was light and airy.
On the whole we had a wonderful holiday but it was slightly marred on our last evening, when we returned to the barn, following a walk, only to be confronted by a swarm of flys, which had, unfortunately, entered the property through an open bathroom window. This had been left open following the plumber having fixed the shower. Sadly, our last evening was spent swatting flys and put a dampener on what had been a lovely day. We did make the owner aware of what had occurred and she was extremely apologetic about the situation.
Despite this unfortunate incident, it would not put us off staying at Artist's Barn again in the future, as we did have a lovely week. David & Carol, Halifax.

Hello David and Carol, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. It's a gem of a cottage, isn't it? The views are exquisite! You couldn't have picked a better location for escaping from the hustle and bustle for a while and getting out and about on some great walks. I'm pleased to hear the fabulous owner was able to resolve the shower issue for you very quickly. Come back any time, you can be sure of a very warm welcome.
