Call this 1830s barn conversion home and enjoy time together in the sociable rooms and the fabulous garden after spending days adventuring from Skiddaw to the Solway Coast.

Welcome to this magnificent stone-built barn conversion dating back to the 1830s. It is situated in the hamlet of Bridekirk, near Cockermouth. The property enjoys views to Skiddaw, the Solway and the Ennerdale fells, and is surrounded by open countryside. The nearest pub is a mile away.

Sleeping eight people in four en-suite bedrooms, this grand retreat boasts luxurious living areas, generously appointed bedrooms and beautiful gardens. The property is arranged over several levels and decorated in a fine country style. Outside in a separate building is a games room with a full sized snooker table, piano and a bar. The owners have taken care to retain charming original features alongside the modern facilities.

Cockermouth is just 3 miles away, filled with independent shops, pubs and restaurants. Bridekirk is right on the edge of the Lake District National Park and has good access to walking in the Lorton Valley, the Whinlatter fells, on Skiddaw and in the Bassenthwaite area. The dramatic Cumbrian coastline with its cliffs and beaches is within a 15-minute drive. The property enjoys spectacular summer sunsets over the Solway coast and Scottish lowlands.

The entrance hallway has a lovely slate floor. It leads to a large walk-in cloakroom and smaller drying cupboard for wet walking gear. There is a well-furnished downstairs twin bedroom that has a built-in wardrobe and TV. The separate shower room has a large shower, WC and heated towel rail. Also off the entrance hallway is a utility/kitchenette. This room has an external door, suitable for less abled access with a width of 90cm. This room features a fridge/freezer, microwave, washing machine, tumble dryer, sink and work surfaces.

A small flight of open-plan wooden stairs leads to the open-plan family room. This is a large room with underfloor heating featuring a large bespoke kitchen, sitting area, TV and family-sized breakfast table. Large patio doors open to a patio area and the garden. The bespoke kitchen has an island unit, lovely granite work surfaces, an electric induction Range cooker, built-in full-sized fridge and separate freezer, and integral combination microwave with oven.

A further small flight of open-tread stairs lead to the landing area with sofa. Leading off this is a double bedroom with TV and en-suite bathroom featuring a shower over the bath and WC. Also on this floor is the master king-size bedroom with a large window, formerly the original barn door. This window opens to a patio area and the garden. The master bedroom also has a lovely dressing room and en-suite shower room with bath and shower.

The next level is the magnificent open-plan living area, featuring a grand dining area and living room. The original stone walls have been exposed to excellent effect and are complimented by the tall vaulted ceilings and original beams. A large wood burner provides additional warmth in this room. The room is decorated in a contemporary country style with several antique items of furniture.

There is a final flight of open tread stairs that lead to the top floor. The top floor has a galleried landing and an office area comprising of a desk and chair. Off this landing is a double bedroom with character beams and an en-suite bathroom featuring a Jacuzzi corner bath, and WC.

The property boasts a separate 'entertainment' building, featuring a full-sized snooker table, reading area, a bar and a piano. Guests are permitted to set off fireworks at certain times of year but the time and date must be confirmed with the neighbours. Chinese lanterns are not permitted.

Outside is a large parking area to the front of the house. There is undercover parking in a large barn if required. The barn can also be used for the storage of outdoor equipment and has a fold away table tennis table.

The house is surrounded by a lovely lawned garden in which there are four separate sitting out areas. These patios have been positioned to follow the sun throughout the day. The sunsets are particularly spectacular in summer, with the sun setting on the Solway and the Scottish lowlands. The cottage has its own wildlife woodland and beautiful herbaceous borders. Surrounding the gardens is open farmland.

We had a wonderful week at Ellwood. The space was great, cottage is really comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything you might need and our children loved the games room and outdoor space. Location worked well for us, lots to see within a 30 minute radius. Thank you!

We have had a wonderful holiday at Ellwood. It is a beautiful place to stay; spacious, quirky and comfortable, surrounded by a lovely (and huge!) garden. The seating outside the main bedroom is a suntrap and a lovely place to sit and take in the views of the fells to the south. We also really enjoyed the snooker room, which was a fantastic bonus. TRead morehe location is another plus, as it feels very rural but is only a couple of miles from the lovely town of Cockermouth. We would love to stay again! Hide

The house is incredible 4 bedrooms of great size and 4 bathrooms with large family room leading to patio and exceptional garden well kept. The location is ideal and so quiet but 10 mins away from Cockermouth and many attractions. I would highly recommend this fantastic property

This property is in a good quiet location 10 minutes by car from Cockermouth. This was not an ideal holiday home for us as no ground floor lounge area to share with our well behaved dog in poor weather. Nice sized garden is enclosed by approx. 1 metre stone wall and fencing but possible for our dog to escape and mention of sheep in garden so kept oRead moren lead. Would consider going back if not a dog family. Hide

Great cottage, fantastic quiet location, friendly neighbours and welcoming housekeeper. Lots of space for the family to spread out. We had the most amazing sunset while we were there and enjoyed watching the barn owl flying around.

Second time at Ellwood - such a beautiful house, garden and surroundings. So peaceful. Spotlessly clean, all items needed were there, plenty of crockery etc. 8 adults, baby and a dog - all thoroughly enjoyed! Only minor point was having to keep the dog on the lower floor as we were in the kitchen/lounge a lot and the garden not being completely secRead moreure (small dog) but we managed with a long lead and he loved the huge front garden! The cottage is beautiful and very well maintained! The split floors design is great for all family types and giving plenty of privacy for each room. This is an beautiful property set in a delightful area close to Keswick, Lower Water and other amazing walks. The barn conversion easily accommodated our large family and we were delighted with the character and fixture and fittings, everything we needed was provided. The snooker room was a great hit with the family as was the cosy living room and Read moreits log burner. We had an amazing time and would definitely look to book again. A first class property. Beautiful and cleaned to a high standard and very well presented. Mattresses were extremely comfortable after a cold winters day walk. Best stocked cottage ever. Didn't want for anything. The entertainment room kept the boys busy in the evening would highly recommend and definately be returning. Thank you for a wonderful experience

What a wonderful Christmas break in a super property. The house was decorated lovely and was the perfect setting for a family Christmas with grown up kids and their family. Very well equipped kitchen and the welcome pack was a lovely touch. We had a lovely week staying at Ellwood with all the family. What a beautiful place it is with stunning views. The facilities are great especially the snooker room. Brilliant location for visiting local area. We had lovely days out to Silloth, Keswick, Cockermouth and Maryport. Were already looking forward to our next stay at Ellwood !!

What an amazing stay! Everything you would need for a relaxing holiday was catered for. The attention to detail was fantastic, with all rooms spotless and affording luxurious comfort. The gardens are beautiful and surronding views are to die for. We would certainly recommend (and already have) this barn conversion and location to family and friends
