With several social spaces, this townhouse is perfect for get-togethers with family and friends. Head into the Lake District for hiking and dramatic scenery or escape from it all with a day at the coast.

This beautiful period townhouse is located a short walk from the Georgian market town of Cockermouth. Laid out over three floors, inside you'll find spacious accommodation for up to eight people. Off the hallway are the large living room and bright dining room. At the back of the house is the great kitchen which leads onto a delightful breakfast room. On the first floor you'll find the fabulous family bathroom and two of the four bedrooms, a twin and a king-size with its own en-suite shower, and up on the first floor are the remaining two bedrooms, a double and a king-size. The cottage also has an enclosed rear yard, and two dogs are welcome too.

The charming town of Cockermouth has much to offer. Poetry fans will love a visit to Wordsworth House, the childhood home of William Wordsworth. Families will love the nearby Lake District Wildlife Park, whilst adults can enjoy a tour and tasting at Jennings Brewery in the town centre. Take a scenic drive to Whinlatter Forest, where there’s a choice of nine walking trails and three mountain bike trails, or you can even walk with an alpaca for something a bit different! There is a great selection of independent shops for a spot of retail therapy and plenty of different eateries to try out during your stay too.

Popular Keswick is just a 20-minute drive away, perfect for a day out! It’s known as the adventure capital of the North Lakes, and you can sign up for an activity with one of the local adventure companies. Have a go at ghyll scrambling and canyoning or spend the afternoon raft building on Derwentwater. Head west for a peaceful walk around beautiful Loweswater or continue onwards to the coast; enjoy a seaside stroll along the pebble and sandy beach at Allonby whilst taking in the breathtaking views of the Solway Firth. Both the coast and the Lake District are within easy reach, so a stay in Cockermouth means you're perfectly placed for exploring both.

Four shallow steps lead up to the front door of this impressive home from home, which take you into the spacious hallway. At the front of the cottage is the lovely living room, with period features, an original pretty feature fireplace and a large bay window. There is stylish seating and a TV for entertainment, or why not choose the seat in the bay window and watch the world go by? The bright dining room has a large wooden farmhouse-style table, ideal for hearty homecooked meals whilst catching up on the day’s events.

At the back of the cottage is the fantastic kitchen, with beautiful slate worktops and sleek units. You’ll find an electric range-style oven with gas hobs, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, handy microwave, toaster and the all-important kettle. Beyond the kitchen, up two steps, is a delightful breakfast room, perfect for morning coffee. Two steps up from the breakfast room is a little seating area, a lovely spot for escaping with a good book.

Also on the ground floor is a modern shower room, with WC, washbasin and shower cubicle.

At the top of the stairs, on the first floor is the gorgeous family bathroom. Alongside the WC and stylish washbasin, there's a modern shower cubicle and a fabulous free-standing, clawfoot bath, perfect for enjoying a relaxing soak. The washing machine and tumble dryer are hidden away in a cupboard in the bathroom, and there's also another separate WC next door.

Also on the first floor are two beautiful bedrooms. First up is the lovely twin room, with pretty metal-framed single beds. There's also a handy wardrobe and chest of drawers for storage. At the front of the cottage is the first king-size bedroom. The large sash windows flood the room with light and give a delightful outlook over the rooftops to the countryside beyond. The vintage wardrobe and chest of drawers provide plenty of storage, and there's also an en-suite shower and washbasin tucked around the corner.

Onwards and upwards to the second floor, where you'll find the remaining two bedrooms. The charming double room has a lovely outlook over the rear of the cottage, whilst the spacious king-size room is to the front and has views of the surrounding countryside. Both these bedrooms have plenty of storage too.

Outside the cottage is a pleasant, enclosed yard. A real sun trap with an outdoor table and chairs, this is a lovely spot to relax and unwind after a day out and about. On-street parking is available, just a short walk from the cottage.

Really enjoyed this cottage. Lots of space for our group to sit together or split up. Parking is a (small) pain but not significant. The nearby park with red squirrels is lovely. Lots of nearby shops. The master bedroom has an en suite shower and basin but no loo. We would highly recommend it.

The cottage was lovely. Really impressed with the space provided especially as there was 8 adults. Cockermouth quieter than thought but was a great location for seeing what Lake District had to Offer. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay which was good with age range of 17 to 62.

Very nice, clean, spacious home. In a nice location with a good secured back patio area for our dog. House is equipped with everything needed. Bin liners are kept in the shed. Good communication with Sallys Cottages who got a new dishwasher installed within two days. Would recommend.

Overall, a roomy and comfortable house within walking distance to the centre of Cockermouth. Parking close to the house could be difficult, particularly at the weekend. There are many areas of interest in close proximity to the house and the coast is not too far. We were lucky and experienced hot weather so were able to swim in lakes and sea. Good Read moreshopping for provisions in the town which is quieter than other places in the Lake District. We had a most enjoyable week. Hide

Lovely house, very clean, very well equipped and great location to walk into Cockermouth or drive out to the Lakes. Harris Park is just 10/15 mins walk so lovely for little ones and their four legged friends to let off some steam. It was such a nice touch to have the Christmas tree too! Thank you Claire and family x

We had a lovely stay at Moreland Place, house was huge and more than fitted our needs. It was homely enough for us all to feel together but plenty of room for us all to have private space too. House was immaculately clean and cant fault anything. There were no extra bin bags, so we had to buy them ourselves. The cooker fan was temperamental as the button did not stay put once you pushed it. Otherwise, the showers were clean and comfortable to use. The heating was timed, and the place sometimes got very cold. It amazes me that the checkout time is 10 am, which leaves seven hours for the cleaRead morening, which I think is ridiculous. I would understand if the place was spic and span, but it wasnt. We left it cleaner than we found it. Hide

We found 9 Moreland Place to be a really lovely house, clean, very well presented and with plenty of space for our group / family of 6. The additional rooms at the rear made a big difference. The house is very well kitted out so I don't think we found wanting for anything. Location wise it great if you're doing things between Cockermouth and AmblesRead moreide, beyond that it starts to be come a trek if you're coming and going every day. Cockermouth itself was lovely as well. Hide
