6 Forest Houses is located in the peaceful village of Ennerdale Bridge and sleeps up to five people. The cottage has been stylishly refurbished and is light and airy; comfort is top of the bill here, a perfect retreat for families or couples to use as a base to launch into the Lake District. Ennerdale Water is 20 minutes' walk from the cottage and similarly accessible are walking routes up Grike, Cragg and Bowness Fells. The Fox and Hounds pub (30m) and the Shepherd's Arms Hotel (400m) both serve local ales and great food. A stone's throw in the other direction is The Gather, a community-owned and run cafe and shop offering excellent coffee, speciality teas, homemade cakes, cookies, sandwiches and soups.
Ennerdale is one of the quietest and most remote valleys in the Lake District. The long deep lake provides a habitat for several rare species. Tall mountains tower over the lake whilst the head of the valley is forested and home to many species including deer, badgers, rare breed Belted Galloway cattle and red squirrels. 6 Forest Houses is perfectly located for exploring Ennerdale whilst remaining within easy driving distance of other Lake District highlights including Cockermouth, Loweswater, Buttermere and the Cumbrian coastline. There are plenty of family friendly attractions including the Lake District Wildlife Park near Bassenthwaite, an aquarium in Maryport, Go Ape at Whinlatter and the Ravenglass railway in Eskdale.
