- We booked this cottage for the Christmas week and felt at home the moment we arrived. Tastefully furnished and the most amazing underfloor heating downstairs! The kitchen was fantastic and we cooked every day including the full works on Christmas day itself. We appreciated two ovens which contrary to other reviews worked perfectly. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need (apart from potato peeler and oven gloves). There's a hidden washing machine in the downstairs loo - which was great for all our muddy walking clothes. Just be careful as there is a small two inch step in that room which you don't at first see.
We got both log fires roaring away (yes there are two sitting rooms!) which was a lovely treat.
There also some throws upstairs if you feel cold - which we didn't at any time. We wanted for little other home comforts whilst we were there.
We used iPlayer, Amazon prime video and Netflix on the downstairs TV thanks to the FireTV Stick. (bring your login details with you and don't forget to log out when you leave). Yes the TV sound quality is a bit naff but to be honest the last thing I wanted was to come away for a week and spend the whole time watching an expensive TV.
Three great sized bedrooms (one behind pocket doors) and loads of storage upstairs. The separate ensuite / main bathroom was handy with four of us. We had to boost the hot water a few days to provide for enough showers. (i think in the summer this will not be an issue due to a solar system).
Haverthwaite is only a few miles below lakes Windermere and Coniston and as such provided for easy access each day up into the main body of the national park. I'm really struggling to find how this cottage could be improved - admittedly the upstairs floor boards are noisy - but that added to the charm of such a fantastic cottage.
If I was venturing back to the Lake District I wouldn't waste time looking elsewhere - this cottage felt like home from home.
Oh...I forgot...we had a fully made-up real Christmas tree when we arrived too. :-)

Hi Richard, thank you for taking the time to write a review. I'm so pleased you enjoyed your Christmas break. It's the perfect place to relax and recharge the batteries isn't it? And the location is ideal for heading out exploring. I bet it was a treat to come home to those lovely fires after a day out in the fresh Lakes air! Come back any time, you can be sure of a warm welcome.
