General Introduction
Situated half a mile outside the village of Eskdale, The Barn offers group accommodation for up to 12 people and specialises in weekend accommodation from Easter through to November.
The house is in a fantastic location for hundreds of walks in the Eskdale valley, either on the fells or along the banks of the River Esk, which flows from Scafell at the top of the valley down to the estuary at Ravenglass, an old fishing village complete with a ruined Roman bath-house. The house is also very handy for the pub - the Bower House Inn being just a 10-15 minute walk away.
Nearby is the River Esk with natural pools for swimming. It is also a popular place for canoeing and fishing. The famous Ravenglass & Eskdale Miniature Railway runs along the valley, its steam trains making the leisurely seven-mile journey down to the sea.
There are five pubs in the valley, all welcoming children and serving real ales and a wide choice of good food. The village shop sells a comprehensive range of goods, including groceries, fresh fruit and vegetables, food to go, alcohol and newspapers. There is some reception for mobile phones on the Orange network.
