General Introduction
Sleeping 4 to 6 people, Smithy Brow Cottage is a beautiful Lake District cottage in a fabulous location in Eskdale. The cottage is tucked away up a private leafy lane (known locally as Giggle Alley) leading from Eskdale Village up onto the fells overlooking the valley.
Smithy Brow Cottage has a lovely feel. The kitchen and dining area is light and airy, this leads into a cosy sitting room, with a traditional wood burner and then a sunny conservatory for enjoying the afternoon and evening sun.
There are loads of walks from the cottage; if you are fit, you can tackle Scafell Pike from the door of the cottage. If you prefer something more gentle, then the woodland walks in Miterdale (the secret valley in Arthur Ransome’s Swallows and Amazons) are right on the doorstep and there are hundreds of hikes of all standards over the Eskdale Fells.
There are two great Lake District pubs within walking distance of the cottage both serving local ales and excellent food. It’s also a hundred yards to the village shop, which sells a good range of essentials. Pets are welcome at the cottage (maximum 2 dogs).
Muncaster Castle and The Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway are both within easy reach of Smithy Brow Cottage and both are a great day out for all the family, with lots of special events throughout the year. Coniston Water is half an hour away in one direction, and Wastwater Lake is twenty minutes the other way.
