Dating from the 1850s this lovely traditional end of terrace cottage provides a welcoming and cosy base to explore all that the northern Lake District has to offer. While it boasts countless details revealing the character of the building such as exposed stone walls, latched doors and a lovely open fireplace it has also been given plenty of 21st century comforts such as contemporary furnishings, vibrant textiles and a wonderful powerful shower in its modern bathroom. It has a delightful mature garden to the front providing year-round colour and a glorious place to sit and enjoy the changing view of Skiddaw or to just observe the gentle bustle of village life.
The village of Bassenthwaite lies just over 1 mile from the head of the lake from which it takes its name. It is a traditional gem blessed with a village green, working farms and, of course, fantastic walking and cycling right on the doorstep. There is a wealth of paths and bridleways to explore from gentle low level ambles to more challenging fell walks, not least up mighty Skiddaw, England's fourth highest mountain, which can be approached directly from the cottage. Just around the corner from the house is a much loved village pub, which serves excellent locally sourced food and real ales. There's plenty to do in the area immediately around the village too with a Wildlife Park that families will adore, an award winning spa for those with a desire to do some pampering, a historic mansion house with literary connections and the Lakes Distillery for a tour and tasting!
If you'd like to explore local town life Bassenthwaite lies between Cockermouth and Keswick; two wonderful Cumbrian towns with lots to discover. Cockermouth is a charming Georgian town notable for being Wordsworth's birthplace - in fact you can still visit his childhood home; Keswick is well known as the adventure capital of the Lake District with every conceivable outdoor activity catered for. This vibrant town has a great choice of cafes and restaurants as well as its own theatre and art deco cinema. In short whether you are looking for an activity filled break or a relaxing holiday in the heart of a traditional Lakeland village then the cottage provides a perfect place to stay.

On arrival at the property guests are greeted by the main door with porch way inside where there is plenty of room for muddy boots. Moving through to next door you reach the lovely cosy living room. There is a large brown leather corner sofa for curling up and enjoying a roaring fire in the open stone fireplace or for enjoying a good book. The living room has a flatscreen TV with Freeview and the owner has thoughtfully left a selection of books and reading lamps with which to enjoy them.
The kitchen and dining area is accessed through one of the lovely latched doors. The kitchen is well equipped with a double oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and all the crockery and utensils you're likely to need for your stay. There's a handy utility area housing a washer/ dryer and plenty more hanging space for coats and floor space for footwear. There's a lovely dining table for four people which looks out onto the garden, an ideal spot to discuss your Lake District adventures.
Heading up the winding staircase via the living room takes you to the two bedrooms and bathroom. Firstly to the delightful master bedroom with its large built-in wardrobes and bedside drawers. It's a wonderful room with a gorgeous view out over the garden to the fells beyond from its window seat. Moving on to the twin room which has a chest of drawers for your bits and bobs and yet another picture perfect window.
On this floor is the fresh modern bathroom with its contemporary suite. It boasts a large 'P' shaped bath with a lovely powerful shower. Ideal for soaking away any aches and pains from long mountain rambles. The window out on the landing looks to the rear of the house onto a working farm where children will love watching the comings and goings while adults will, no doubt, love the views to the fells in the distance.
Moving outside there's a lovely mature garden with glorious shrubs and thoughtful planting providing year-round colour. Lucky the guests who visit while the clematis and roses are in bloom. There's garden furniture for enjoying sunny morning cuppas, evening meals or just a sunset glass of wine while soaking up the ever changing view of the western flank of Skiddaw.
