General Introduction
Randlehow Holiday Cottage is tucked away at the end of a quiet access-only lane that houses some of the oldest houses in Eskdale, one of the Lake District’s most tranquil valleys. Itself one of the older cottages on the lane, this lovely holiday house was extensively refurbished in 2004 to create comfortable and spacious self catering accommodation for up to 7 people, with a private walled garden and fabulous views.
Eskdale is a wonderful starting point for hundreds of walks, either on the fells or along the banks of the River Esk, which flows from Scafell at the top of the valley down to the estuary at Ravenglass, an old fishing village complete with a ruined Roman bath-house. The river has natural pools for swimming and is a popular place for canoeing and fishing.
The famous Ravenglass & Eskdale Miniature Railway runs along the valley, its steam trains making the leisurely seven-mile journey down to the sea. - The Green station is just five minutes walk from Randlehow Cottage. There are five pubs in the valley (the Bower House Inn and the George IV are just a ten minute walk away), all welcoming children and serving real ales and a wide choice of good food.
The village shop is just a five minute walk away and sells a comprehensive range of goods, including groceries, fresh fruit and vegetables, food to go, alcohol and newspapers. There is some reception for mobile phones on the Orange network.
