Lying at the foot of Ullock Pike is Parkergate Farmhouse, nestled under the grandeur of Skiddaw and overlooking meadows and woodland towards Bassenthwaite Lake. Parkergate Farmhouse has recently been renovated to a very high standard with beautiful furnishings to create a luxurious yet homely self catering cottage. The farmhouse is south west facing with french windows leading to a patio – a fabulous spot to watch the sun go down after a hard day out on the fells.
There is fantastic walking from the front door in the majestic Skiddaw range, smaller Dodd Wood or along the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake. The owners have thoughtfully provided a high specification telescope so you can look out for the visiting Ospreys during nesting season. Red Squirrels are regular visitors to the Parkergate gardens. The lovely St Bega's church nestles on the lake shore, said to be the inspiration for Alfred Tennyson's Morte d'Arthur after his visit there in 1835.
Bassenthwaite village is a thirty minute walk (1.5 miles) over the fields and is home to The Sun Inn which serves good meals and ales and is child and dog friendly. Keswick is just 5 miles away, market day is Thursday and there are plenty of pubs, cafes and outdoor shops to keep you busy on a rainy day.
