ORCHARD HOUSE
Built in 2003, Orchard House combines traditional
Lake District architecture with modern comfort. Light and airy,
offering spacious accommodation for 8 people, it is set in a large
garden with views over a gentle landscape of woods and fields. This
is a real country retreat, where you can sit and watch the birds
and red squirrels from the conservatory or enjoy walking in the
surrounding countryside.

Loweswater, one of the most beautiful and tranquil lakes in the
Lake District, is only three miles from the house. A farm at its
far end has a couple of Victorian wooden rowing boats for hire,
so you can work up an appetite for a meal at the renowned Kirkstile
Inn just five minutes further on. This four hundred year old
pub has excellent food, open fires and its own brewery, and was
awarded the CAMRA Pub of the Year for West Cumbria and Western Lake
District in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

The unspoiled and peaceful valley of Ennerdale
is four miles away - an ideal starting point for hundreds of walks
- from gentle lakeside strolls to energetic mountain hikes with
stunning views of Ennerdale and Buttermere lakes; rock climbing
(including the challenging Pillar Rock), mountain biking in Ennerdale
forest, fishing and pony trekking.
The market towns of Cockermouth
and Whitehaven are only a short distance away and the ever-popular
town of Keswick is only
half an hour's drive.
The historic village of St Bees is also close at hand, with a long
pebble and sand beach, its famous cliffs with thousands of nesting
sea birds and a 12th century Benedictine priory.
