Things to do nearby The Old Post Office

Within walking distance of The Old Post Office you can conquer Scafell Pike, England's highest mountain or see Wastwater, England's deepest lake. As well as hundreds of riverside, valley and mountain walks and climbs, a trip to Eskdale would not be complete without a ride on Ravenglass & Eskdale Miniature Railway known as L'aal Ratty. The Green station is only ten minutes down the road and allows you to travel car free through the valley. Muncaster Castle, with its azaleas, rhododendrons and Owl Sanctuary is a brilliant for rainy days (and not so rainy days) with over 40 different types of owl in its sanctuary and glorious wild gardens. There is plenty of Roman heritage in the area with the fort at Hardknott and the Bath House in Ravenglass.
Keen golfers will be thrilled by the Eskdale Gold Course, 18 holes of challenging golf set in the majestic Eskdale Valley over a secluded parkland course. You can also fish here in the fully stocked pools. Ravenglass is easily accessed using L'aal Ratty. This pretty fishing village is where the fells meet the sea and often has amazing sunsets that have to bee seen to be believed.
Stanley Ghyll waterfall is a 60 foot high waterfall (also known as a Force) which is falls in a dramatic deep and narrow gorge. Rhododendrons grow on the high rock ledges to give an oriental feel to the area. You can walk up to Stanley Ghyll via the Dalegarth Station carpark or the National Trust carpark and it is possible to walk to the top of the gorge and look down (with care!) over 150 feet of breath taking scenery.
