Situated in the timeless village of Buttermere this small traditional Lakeland cottage offers an unrivalled location for walking and enjoying the Western Lake District. It has some great original features and has been renovated to a high standard offering lovely, cosy accommodation for two.

Buttermere Lake and Crummock Water are just a walk away and there are walks for all abilities right from the doorstep. There are two pubs to quench your thirst after your efforts (In winter the pubs sometimes close for the odd days so it’s best to check directly with them, and please remember torches as there are no street lights), and two cafes, one of which serves homemade Buttermere ice-cream from the farm’s own Ayrshire cows.

Entering the cottage by the front door you come into a carpeted, beamed sitting room which has a wood burner, a smart TV and DVD player. Here you’ll also find an information folder, books, walking guides and board games. The sitting room leads through to the dining area which is open to the well-equipped kitchen. This has a fully tiled floor and can be separated from the sitting room by a stable door, so is a good place for a wet dog to dry off before snoozing by the fire. A stairgate is provided at the bottom of the stairs leading from this area. Head upstairs from the dining area and you’ll find a single bedroom with Velux window, a tiled bathroom with a shower over the bath, and a double bedroom with a king-sized bed with views across the valley to Red Pike

Outside, across the yard, there is a private, enclosed garden which has wonderful views across the valley to the Buttermere fells – a great place to sit and relax. There is direct access from the back door steps to Rannerdale Knotts and beyond. Parking for one car is available in the yard. It should be able to accommodate most sizes of vehicle but extra-large cars may struggle to park.

  • 1 double bedroom with king-size bed
  • 1 single bedroom
  • 1 bathroom with shower over the bath and WC
  • Electric oven, hob, fridge with icebox compartment and microwave
  • Wood burner with a generous initial supply of logs provided (more available to purchase)
  • TV, DVD
  • Enclosed garden located across the yard
  • Off-road parking for 1 car.  Larger vehicles may struggle to park
  • Pub within 0.5 miles, shop within 10 miles
  • Please note mobile reception is variable – public phone available in nearby pub
  • Buttermere is a dark sky village, so please make sure to bring a torch as there are no street lamps
  • Sleeps 2 guests maximum
  • Regret no children under the age of 18 years old
  • Arrival: 17:00 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00
  • 1 dog allowed. Additional charges may apply

A wonderful little cottage in Buttermere with off road parking. The pubs and cafe's are just a stroll down the road. Perfect for hiker's with numerous walks directly from the cottage. The views are breathtaking, we were lucky to be here for when the bluebells came out and, although the valley swarmed with people, it was a beautiful sight. Make sure you buy everything needed for your entire stay before you arrive as the nearest supermarket is a good 30 minute drive away, this will need to include tea, coffee, sugar, cooking oil and extra toilet roll. This cottage is a little gem in the heart of Buttermere. The property was very well equipped, warm, comfortable and had everything you may need for a short break in the Lakes. The weather gave us a mixed week, but with a log burner and games to entertain us whilst it rained, then we sat out in the garden when the sun shone, absolutely great, many tRead morehanks. Hide

Reluctant to return home after our week in Middle Cragg Cottage. Tried to book again for later in the year but unfortunately already booked. Would go as far as to say a perfect property and perfect location. The views are the best of any propert we've stayed in. We did many walks around a few of the lakes and mountains with our dog. 11/10

We had a wonderful week in Middle Cragg Cottage, amazingly the same cottage in which we spent our honeymoon but unrecognisable due to the expert renovations completed by Yvette and Richard. Everything had been thought of, down to the finest detail and it showed. The cottage was just perfect. Cosy, comfortable with all the essentials and more in theRead more well equipped kitchen, including lovely sharp knives! Yvette and Richard were very friendly, welcoming hosts. We certainly hope to revisit in 2025. Hide
